Is that game like, quite fun and not super confusing and min-maxxy? I'm looking for an RPG to play

You're not required to min-max and the actual combat's pretty easy as long as you remember each enemy typically has some sort of weakness to one of the elements/attack types. Honestly I think it's pretty easy even on the hardest difficulty, because while enemies do hit harder - you do too. From the wiki:

If an attack's element is Resisted by the target, it will deal x0.5 damage. If the target is Weak towards that element, the attack will deal x1.4 damage. If the difficulty is set to Merciless, the damage from exploiting weak points will also be tripled in comparison to the normal damage an exploitative attack would deal.

The game's not a chore and if you pick up Royal (instead of base P5R) they went back and improved a lot of the tedious mechanics by adding new things/confidant skills. A good example is they fixed a lot of the tedious travel you had to do in a palace (dungeon) to get places by giving Joker his grappling hook in P5R.

It can be kinda grindy at some points if you try to just speed past the dungeons (there's really hard exp caps so teh game is basically balanced around being like, two/three levels below it) and the stats from a single level up are surprisingly important but it's a really fun classic JRPG that has relatively simple mechanics overall. Hit weakness, apply buffs/debuffs and just kill a bunch of shit.

Nah there have been good tracks in all of them but the number of great tracks has grown with each installation and 5's entire soundtrack is fire.

I can't remember any songs from 1 but the battle theme, 3 has like five or six good tracks, etc.

3 has way more than five or six good tracks that entire soundtrack has few moments where it actually lags (I'm thinking of Tartarus really since it really drags but even then, when you get to block 6 that shit kicks ass and actually Ark from P5 reminded me of it). 4 is the worst Persona game in terms of soundtrack; 1 & 2 don't exist in Atlus' eyes so they don't count here either.

1 and 2 sure get ported a lot for games that don't exist.

The only themes I can remember from three are the Dorm theme, the French school theme and Burn My Dread. I can remember like 3x that many tracks from 4, probably because the soundtrack is a lot more strongly themed, a trend that continues and makes literally all the music in 5 memorable, even the cutscene background music.

1 and 2 sure get ported a lot for games that don’t exist.

Weren't the last (and only?) ports for both of those for the PSP?

Honestly I'm surprised you consider 4 to have more memorable tracks than 3, because I can't think of any from 4 beyond Heaven, Pursuing My True Self, Time to Make History, and I'll Face Myself.

3 (counting FES and whatnot, of course, since I'd lump P5 & Royal as well as 4 and Golden) has Memories of You (and the School), Brand New Days, When the Moon's Reaching Out to the Stars (maybe the best daytime track in the series besides Sunset Bridge at the end of P5R), and Joy. The like ten thousand versions of Burn My Dread are just a bonus. :jordan-eboy-peterson:

            I will admit that P5 & Royal's soundtrack does genuinely slap and is the most thematically consistent. It probably goes Royal > P3 = P5 > P4 > 2 > 1 imo

Guess it's just a personal taste thing but the only one of those I said "oh shoot yeah that was particularly good how did I forget that" to was Memories of You. I totally disagree w/r/t to daytime themes, Heartbreak, Heartbreak, Your Affection and Tokyo Daylight all hit better for me.

Fair enough. P5 and Royal both have stellar 10/10 soundtracks so really it is just nostalgia/preference for me ranking 3 over them. Can't wait for my vinyls of 5 and Royal soundtrack to fucking ship hopefully soon. Being able to play Our Light over my speakers as I moodily stare at the ceiling is going to be worth the price alone

I actually home-brewed my 3DS not too long ago (specifically to play SMT IV mind you haha) so I'll probably just pirate it since it's still full price on the 3DS eshop :virgil-sad: :

. Don’t blame the music for the Hardware limitations.

haha I meant it as a compliment to the soundtrack as in it deserved a system with better speakers :ohnoes:
