mean zack "grimdark" synder is reactionary, but the synder cut less or more shit then the whedon cut?
i like it a lot more than the first version.
it's just...EXTREMELY zack snyder. if you don't like zack snyder or superhero movies this is absolutely not going to convince you. its 4 hours long, its almost entirely gray, its in a 4:3 aspect ratio (this is the one i don't understand at all), the music choices are range from weird to terrible, there's slow motion ALL the time. its extremely zack snyder.
but i was weirdly entertained? somehow the 4 hours didn't seem that bad, but i also watched it over the course of a day, not in a single sitting. i enjoy capeshit in general, and i used to read tons of dc comics and kind of prefer dc shit, so take that with a grain of salt. i appreciate that it was stuffed with dc references, and clearly was trying to set up the next few movies even though zack snyder's crazy vision of a DC cinematic universe no longer exists
The justification I have heard is that 4:3 is close to the IMAX aspect ratio, and Snyder initially wanted it released for IMAX but lol covid so now its a decision to "preserve the directors artistic choice" or something like htat.
Yeah, it's definitely better than the the Whedon cut. Having said that, I don't think I'll rewatch it, but it definitely has more traction in my mind than the complete nothing that was the Whedon cut.
Snyder's vision may be pretty hacky, but at least he has one so the film is more internally coherent.
from everything I've heard it seems to be better than the original. Now, I've seen neither. But I may see the new one to know if its actually good on its own without comparison.
pros:
- the weird cgi non-beard for superman isn't happening.
cons:
- it's 4 hours and 2 minutes. automatic fail.
- the half hour epilogue of tee ups and alternate timeline shit should have been cut. batfleck and joker leto in the same scene doing a twisted dick measure? this made me want darkseid to annihilate the universe.
general critique of both:
- ben affleck should not be in movies anymore. probably never should've been in any, unless the part was written by a close friend who knows exactly now limited he is.
- the entire clusterfuck of the DCEU is so hilariously plagued by the studio being jealous of the MCU IP printing stacks on stacks for Dizney, so WB is constantly doing 3 Stooges bits like all the egos trying to go through a door at the same time and getting stuck. I can't be bothered to be emotionally invested in either, so all this rigamarole and discord is the real comedy to me. I hope WB, Zach "Attack" Snyder, and the legions of piglet-fans all kill each other while Dizney cranks out so much milquetoast marvel capeshit that features more and more obscure crap until the Avengers 14 is about like Juggernaut's step-uncle working at a stamping plant in ohio and being mad at the family court system and Havok's mailman showing up to tell him to stay off the drugs and alcohol. and it makes 2 billion dollars.
ben affleck should not be in movies anymore. probably never should’ve been in any, unless the part was written by a close friend who knows exactly now limited he is.
ouch totally true tho lmao
just as shit. more overindulgent and gross. the plot makes more sense but like, its a stupid plot so that doesn't matter.
I'm in the minority, it's worse. Joss' cut is better because he's edited out the pointless garbage....but the good stuff I enjoyed in Joss' cut is surprisingly from Snyder. Most of the humour and weird imagery/designs kept me going through the 2017 version.
Then in 2021 version we get an overwhelming amount of some of the worst dialogue I've seen in mainstream superhero films for the last 10 years.
Some people like the final fight, watch it if you want, just youtube it. haha
Joss’ cut is better because he’s edited out the pointless garbage
I'm just baffled by how much he reshot and somehow made worse. Redoing entire scenes with less enthusiastic actors on worse sets in order to get in stupid Whedon quips or make the plot even more bland and nonsensical it's like he just wanted to burn money and time
It could very very easily be 2 hours shorter, but is otherwise unremarkable. I was the "control" for my group because I hadn't seen the Whedon version, but I thought it was
unremarkablefine if bland. Also, some of the names, which I assume come straight from the comics are pretty painful.
I've seen neither but seeing what they look like, I'm gonna say more nah just by virtue of being longer. It's probably better but I'd rather endure pain for 2 hours than endure slightly less pain for 4 hours.
