I feel like there has be some good materialist analysis of the drive of late stage capitalism to "hot-ify" everything...

My understanding of it is that she thought Raya and the Last Dragon was derivative of The Last Airbender, and got accused of being racist against Asians. As YouTubers tend to do, Lindsay got all smug and doubled down, instead of being introspective or understanding. People did not like that.

She wasn't even really wrong. The film's whole conceit is, basically, that the dragons banished a great evil and vanished. Then, everything changed when the Fang Tribe attacked. Only the last dragon, by uniting the power of the Five Tribes, can save the world. She just doesn't handle criticism well.

I haven't seen Raya but yeah based on what you're saying, that sounds like a fair point. Also I did a bit more searching and apparently she followed that with more bad takes so maybe it's more the cumulative effect of those lol.

Oof. That's pretty gross. Especially the, "hey asians, MAYBE IF YOU SQUINT, lol this isn't a dogwhistle" part. Yikes.

See, this is why having a Twitter is a lose-lose proposition. If you ever tweet while angry or annoyed you're just creating a permanent record of the worst thoughts you've ever had, and as time advances the odds of there being an entire book of horrible things you've said approaches 100%.

Apparently, she compared Raya and the Last Dragon to Avatar the Last Airbender. Which caused people to go "Asian imagery has deeper roots than that, also ATLA was made by two white guys".

Which, I haven't seen the specific things she said, but it sounds like she wasn't just saying "this Asian thing is just like the only other Asian thing I know, ATLA!", I think there were deeper comparisons. Idk I don't get it

So I'm Asian but I've never seen ATLA as being an Asian thing so idk I don't get it either. Although apparently she's also posted a whole bunch of bad takes in the past and people have been digging them up

idk but she deleted her twitter and people on my TL were pissed

She made a video awhile back with some (supposedly) racist imagery and she didn't apologize or address the situation at all

It's interesting because that's clearly what they were trying to do but the original Magic Schoolbus Teacher is easily hotter

Actually the exact opposite is happening. No, I'm not just talking about Lola Bunny, the trend in media is to remove sexuality because sexuality isn't (as easily) profitable

I'd love for the author to explain what changes in particular make the new one seem that way in contrast to the old one.
