  • I had the same reaction when one of those daytime preacher shows was on and the guy started to segue from one of the generic bible verses on love and peace to the republican talking points on why this doesn't mean you have to be nice to minorities. I went from tuning those shows out as kid until the cartoons came on, to just not watching broadcast tv and it gave me a "They Live" moment where you realize that background noise from your childhood was telling people to hate each other.

  • It's clear the actual problem was the left backed off from having any actual plan, didn't form a voting block, and still falls heavily into the trend of launching low effort projects that are immediately abandoned to follow whatever the trendiest thing in the news is. Like the problem with woke activism isn't where if they just used the right language the CIA would cry, it's that a lot of it is beholden to special interest groups and never develops any concrete goals beyond creating a market of what are basically secular mission trips for college students.

I'd probably be more sympathetic to the anti woke people if so many didn't do the too cool for school thing, but they help a lot of this happen. Using the "I'm a real deal class guy" to sell substack subscriptions, books, podcast, vlogs or whatever. To be fair to Glenn he was one of the people who did try to help last time to turn the left into something more practical, he was just one of the only ones from that side of the divide.

They are probably noticing how light the narrative feels and trying to use the iron curtain narrative to handwave it. Like just on a gut level it doesn't make sense to say China is doing a holocaust, but somehow is producing less incriminating evidence than Abu Ghraib. Through this whole thing you have people freely traveling between China and hundreds of other countries including the US so how would censorship even work. It just feels absurd.

  • Yeah, listening to this now and he's actually making the ivory tower argument in the other direction. He's talking about basically being one of the only people in left academia/media from a poor background(specifically calling out Amy Goodman for her and all of her siblings apparently going to harvard) I can see why Brace seems to relate to him a lot.

  • I've been thinking that kind of incorporation basically requires the country to still be in a state of colonial or imperial expansion. If all the pieces of the pie are taken the new whites won't have any material basis. It'd just be telling people they are white, but also need to abide the existing stratification which makes them not white again.

If I had to guess I think we might see a lot more stuff like the people faking being other races in academia. The niches a lot of communities in america have built for themselves have the upside of less in group competition. The more the overall pie shrinks, the more pressure there will be for the niches to be invaded and exploited

  • I'm arriving at the conclusion that there really is no choice but to make a third party. If we are at all going to be serious about this it has to be pointed out that doing your labor work within the dems just brings labor closer to dems, it at best recreates the conditions the democratic party had with Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton where that beefed up union power just kept the workers pacified as everything got yeeted off a cliff with leadership's approval.

I have a lot of trouble believing the blind spot is actually that large among left leaders so all the energy being spent to set up those dominoes to fall again is terrifying. It implies Clinton V2 is how they intend to navigate automation or some other impending labor crisis.

She started like this. I feel like people sort of project onto AOC and to be fair she goes along with it playing up the bartender thing, but how many legit leftist has anyone here met who came out of highschool wanting to be career politicians?

  • The frustrating thing is how little sense tankie even makes in the context of talking to people who want the nordic system when they have far more troop deployments than China does. Like think of how crazy it is that we're drowning in this cold war nonsense but most people in the west don't even know what PLA soldiers look like because you don't see them constantly kicking in doors on the nightly news.

I don't even know if it's as interesting as him being red brown. That circle keeps trying to brand itself as something more subversive and new but if you take a lot of the anti idpol left stuff at face value it's just trying to recreate the democrats as they were post Regan, but pre Bush. As much as we made fun of Biden's people for trying to set the clock back to 5 minutes before everything goes to shit, that's essentially what this is.
