The photo is a 1974 photo of Leslie Feinberg, from the FBI file on hir. I've written a piece on my interpretation of Transgender Warriors and Trans Liberation, but I don't think it's quite polished enough, so I'll post it later. Instead, I'll go over hir FBI file: https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/dc-metro/rg-065/6282555/Batch0010/6282555_100-HQ-480756.PDF.
The FBI thought Feinberg could be violating the Communist Control Act, advocating the overthrow of the government, and engaging in rebellion. Needless to say, a hero to all of us. Feinberg was a member of the Workers World Party (the party still exists, but more notably PSL split from it), which apparently wasn't openly advocating for the overthrow of the U.S, they just think it's inevitable.
My favorite line? "captioned subject is believed to be a white female, who became male through some kind of sex change operation, and is possibly homosexual". Some interesting language choice, and it's an interesting snapshot into the evolution of Leslie's identity.
The FBI found Leslie's place of birth and birthdate from public school records. It's a bit of an interesting look into all of the many places the FBI can get their information, along with how information like that was so much more patchwork before the digital age.
"Interview of subject is not being recommended because of the questionable nature of his sexuality". Hmm, interesting.
It's interesting how their investigation spanned multiple cities, from Kansas City to NYC to Bufffalo to Boston. It probably involved quite a few officers, though I'm sure it wasn't the main focus for all of them.
There's some interesting mention about changes in Leslie's gender identity. Born a girl, for a time wearing a beard and mustache, then going back to "she". I'm sure we all know, Feinberg's gender didn't stop evolving there.
"Subject reportedly contributes all extra money to WWP", Leslie definitely was dedicated to the cause. Leslie doesn't attend NYC WWP meetings, but the FBI doesn't mention why.
The FBI isn't immune to typoes, Leslie did some "criminal terspass" that garnered some attention. They wasted some time checking if Leslie was in Boston, but verified where Leslie in NYC lived by pretending to be a part of the Voter Registration Commission.
There's a whole 43 pages of documents, all just from 1974-75. There's plenty of interesting tidbits in there, so maybe check it out.

I have a questions for trans women here:
CW for misgendering
Before you transitioned, did people call you "sir" frequently? I hear about it happening somewhat regularly to trans women. Personally, I very rarely got called sir through all these years of presenting as male. tbh it only happens in fancy places where the staff is trained to call anyone appearing to be male "sir" even if they're like 5 years old.
I don't know why I'm dwelling on this or bringing it up. Part of me wants to give them (the misgender-ers) benefit of the doubt that they're just trying to "play it safe", but obviously they're just doing it to fuck with trans people. I just think it's going to be weird if people suddenly start calling me sir despite appearing less masculine than ever before whenever I start publicly wearing girl clothes.
misgendering/dysphoria
I'm NB but trans femme and my experience has always kinda been that I'm just inherently polarized against cis/heteronormative assholes
When I was a kid, it was being called girly (pejoratively), gay (pejoratively), "sissy," f-slur, etc
The more I came to terms with my feminity and accepted it and came out, those types of people suddenly all thought I was the pinnacle of masculinity because they could tell I really didn't want to be masculine
It's normally passive aggressive and half assed because I guess I'm intimidating in person but I think it's exclusively cishet dudes that have done that, cis women have all seemed to just kinda disinterestedly clock me as "part of the team" gender wise even if they might be a little frosty
Old ladies are surprisingly sweet to me too? The noticeably gayer/androgynous I've been publicly, the more frequently I've been called "dear" and "sweetheart" by nice old ladies, which is kinda cool
It could be an issue of just noticing it more after transition because before that it's default and "normal"
I still get called a man pretty routinely but frankly I can't completely blame people because I still boymode at work and haven't done any of the voice training. It bugs me, of course, but I have no doubt that it's anything I won't be able to do anything about. Transitioning is a long haul endeavor and I'm still early in it
spoiler
I'm pretrasition so I can't say if they do it more after, but I do get called sir more often then I'd like. Not like every interaction of anything but it's a thing 😔 Got called champ the other day too, lol.
But people saying it to be dicks wouldn't surprise me, especially if you're going out fem. I'm sorry you keep getting misgendered :meow-hug:
nah don't be sorry for me (yet lol), I'm also pre/early transition
Well I'll keep it on stand by, if need it
is "champ" gendered...
:sadness: I'm sorry to tell you, it kinda is. At least I've never heard someone say it a girl, feels like something guys say to other guys.
Oh okay, fuck. I've been using it as like, a goofy quasi-term of endearment. Strike that shit off the list.
pogchamp is gender neutral
It’s definitely happened before, but I can’t really recall it happening enough to leave an impression.
I don’t think I ever gave off “sir vibes” very much, like I wouldn’t call some kid sir, so I think that’s more the impression I gave off before transitioning and while boymoding than a like…man with a 9-5 or something. 🤷♀️
The place I feel like you are most likely to be sir’d is on the phone in customer service situations but everyone just assumes I am a woman over the phone, Idk why.
:it-is-a-mystery:
I mean between the three assumptions of a young boy calling about their health insurance, a man having my voice, or it just being a weird sounding lady, I get it I guess.
Good voice nerd
it's not a good voice it's just not a manly voice
Sounds like a good voice to me :shrug-outta-hecks:
it's nasally and weird
it's cute!
And it gets you gendered female, I think that's a win
still don't like it
