I like neon genesis evangelion. You've probably never heard of it
Naruto is a bit too main stream for me. It might be hard to find online. But there is a series called Dragon Ball Z. But you will probably never find it.
You guys watch some really obscure stuff; any of you guys heard of attack on titan? It's up there for me as one of my favorite unknown animes next to the old Batman the animated series.
Dude, you can just make something up and say it’s obscure. There is literally no proof that “attack on titan” even exists. Get out of here with your fake news!
The Tatami Galaxy.
People will stan other Yuasa shows like Ping Pong, Devilman Crybaby or Hands off Eizouken! (And don’t get me wrong, they’re all good shows) but Tatami Galaxy and Night is Short, Walk on Girl are still my favs.
Jokes on you, Tatami Galaxy is the only Yuasa show I've actually watched!
It was pretty good, too.
Main complaint I usually hear when recommending the show is that the subtitles are hard to keep up with, which y’know what is kinda fair.
Watch Night is Short, Walk on Girl next! The movie basically happens sometime during the events of the show. Maybe. It’s a bit fuzzy.

This is a skill issue, people need to get bored halfway through Hunter x Hunter and turn it up to 1.5x speed. That'll learn 'em to read fast.

This is the ritual that summons the reading comprehension devil. It’s not for the faint of heart

Oh my god, really?! Thanks for the recc, mate!
We watched that movie on Hextube a few months back, it was a lot of fun.
I loved “Planetes” it’s about a crew who does orbital debris cleanup.
It’s been ages since I’ve even thought of this series. I need to watch it again soon.
It’s such an endearing series.
People who refuse to watch Golden Kamuy are cowards.
The best cooking anime and gayest anime wrapped into one. The author is now back on their bullshit making a hockey manga again. Hopefully it evades the axe this time.
The fact that it's added to by a stupid amount of research that went into the historical, anthropological and linguistic aspects of the show really makes it one of a kind. (Also neat that it somewhat contributed to the discussion on indigenous rights being reopened to a degree an Japan)
Whenever I think back to when I watched I think it has really nice and strong messaging for high schoolers or merely people going through a major shift in their life. Why do what isn't valued by others or the market is more and more relevant. I need to go rewatch it
Saint Oniisan, a slice of life where Jesus and Buddha are roommates. One of the funniest slice of lifes I've watched
linebarrels of iron
for good reason, it's shit but i enjoy itfull metal panic
it's good but people have no tasterahxephon
also good but pales next to nge, but i'm godawful hipster trash so i prefer ityes i like mecha, can you tell?
I'm on the next level of hipster. I only liked Full Metal Panic Fumoffu.
EDIT: Linebarrels of Iron does have pretty good mech design tho
Full Metal Panic is very fun, though I only read the first manga and played Super Robot Wars V. Sigma was kinda meh unfortunately, alongside the artstyle downgrade. Horrible politics though, unless you interpret it as an over the top parody of the Zeitgeist of the early 2000s.
rahxephon
I wanted to like this so much because when I first saw scenes of it (or maybe it was the trailer), I got the impression that it was about disturbing monstrous creatures attacking earth (similar to NGE) but.....that didn't turn out to be the case.
Linebarrels of iron
If I recall correctly, despite me not liking mecha anime, I think I decided to give this one a shot because a blurb about it sounded hilarious; I think it positioned the main character as this arrogant kid who ticked off not only his enemies but his allies as well, as in basically no one liked him and he caused most of the problems in the series because he was so full of himself. Sadly it did not turn out the way it sounded like it would turn out.
I’ve recommended that a few people and none of them could get into it 😤
The beginning of the school arc had some amusing chud meltdowns back in the day as well.
Oof, this was a dark one. I definitely enjoyed it, and the ending had a brilliant reveal too.
If you weren't going to post this, I was going to post this. Criminal how this show is underrated.
For anyone on the fence, imagine Dragon Ball-era Goku beating his way up across feudal Japan. Only written competently. To sick music.
I wanted to like this because I thought it would be an exciting anime.....only to discover all the fight scenes combined would take you like ten minutes to watch.
Fifty episodes of so. Much. Talking.
Dear God I actually had to say "Shut up and fight already!" in the first episode alone.

I love princess jellyfish! I bought the first translated manga book. I don't know if I've ever met an OG Devilman fan, or an IRL Madoka Magica fan. I also haven't ever met a welcome to the nhk fan because... honestly I don't come out of the blocks with that.
i loved welcome to the nhk back when it came out but it kind of fucked me up and i'm not allowed to watch it again
i still love it and miss it sometimes but it would push some trauma buttons in me that i know not to push to see it again
good soundtrack too!
Agreed. Once you've watched it, it's in your marrow. I'll also never rewatch but will listen to the soundtrack on occasion. Unironically the purupurupururin track is one of the catchiest (meta fictional) anime openers out there.
NHK is probably a personal journey more so than a shared journey, I feel, which is why I haven't really spoken to other people about it irl, plus it comes with a whole raft of cws, but in any case I watched it at a critical time in my life and it helped. Also re princess jellyfish tag yourself I'm mayaya
Guess which anime I came here to post? I saw Princess Jellyfish I think on Netflix a few years back and absolutely loved it. It’s also kind of what really got me into anime to be honest.
I was able to make 3 more Madoka fans by bullying them into watching it. /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
Madoka
This anime hurts itself when its promotional materials make you think it's just an ordinary magical girl anime. It was literally a TV tropes page referring to the characters as being almost liches for having phylacteries that made me think tell me more
Space☆Dandy
Found it on Netflix while high and immediately latched on to its extremely chaotic energy, lack of respect for the idea of canon, constant hamminess, and barrage of jokes, references, homages, and satirisations. Think a surreal saturday morning cartoon version of Cowboy Bebop with Johnny Bravo as the protagonist.
Episode 4, "Sometimes you can't live with dying, baby", is the best zombie episode of anything you will ever watch.
One reason it feels like Cowboy Bebop is probably that it's by the same director (he also did Samurai Champloo).
Used to watch this on adult swim back in 2018
Perfect show to watch and not think
Had it heavily recommended by a friend actually. All I know personally is it’s got a banger outro theme

Grappler Baki. I've met fans online and made my online friends watch it but I've never met a person in real life who knew what it was
Hello, I'm a Baki fan and was really excited when I found out literally like 3 days ago that Baki Rahen had been coming out for a few months.
Baki Rahen
As an inside joke with my friends whenever I get the chance to I always describe somebody as being the Ultimate Pure Boy. The Jack arc is finally real and I'm here to read it in real time
Great Pretender - one of the few Netflix anime projects that was actually worth watching, easily overlooked amid all the low-effort stuff
Short Peace - a set of art pieces that belongs on your shelf next to Memories
Serial Experiments Lain - a high school girl slowly descends into insanity/ascends to digital godhood, while the world around her becomes increasingly incoherent
No, I don't know many people who are into more obscure stuff... I know people who think they're nerdy because they watched AoT or One Piece.
Lain isn't obscure. It's just older. It was really, really popular in its time.
one of the few Netflix anime projects that was actually worth watching
If you like old video games and don't mind/enjoy romance stories + are fine with a 3D CGI artstyle, Hi-Score Girl is a really good show I watched recently.
It me. I'm a FAN. But I'm an artist with interest in animating so I have a soft spot for meta works.
i've met other eizouken friends because I showed it to my friends and made them eizouken fans
