For me, after watching Matilda, I always wanted telekinesis. I think the movie really resonated with me for other, more substantial reasons, but I remember as a kid wishing that one of my high-stress situations would let me get those powers.

Edit - Fun fact: I had a sibling who stopped believing in God because they prayed for Wolverine claws as a kid, but didn't get them.

I still vividly remember regularly going to the bathroom in second grade and praying that I would come back and find my math questions completed. That motherfucker never came through. :bern-disgust:

Super strength since I wanted to help people but didn't know how to other than doing stuff they couldn't. Physical things seemed easiest since I didn't really know how to do much else.

I was this cold ass realist as a kid. I thought "wow these kids are dumb with their impossible superpowers. If I had superpowers It'd be that I'd experience time slightly slower than everyone else, allowing me to react faster than anyone and have more time to think. That would be actually possible and useful." I thought this was fully plausible because I didn't know about the nervous system.

this and teleportation were always mine.

stop time, take a nap, look up something during a test, steal shit, etc. I always worried about aging while time stopped, so wondered if that would shorten my "overall" livespan...

but then i realized it's fiction and i can make it whatever i want.

Yeah same here actually, teleportation was always my second choice.

        Reject cars, embrace teleportation

I used to say I wanted to be able to shoot fish out of my eyes. Like laser vision, but with fish.

I thought I was fucking hilarious when I was a kid

haha don't worry dude, i got the same treatment most of my life growing up trying to come up with unique things. My parents were not that supportive of my creativity most of the time which is honestly very fuckin sad to think about in retrospect. But i've always maintained being a unique or "weird" person (to an extent, not annoying) is a better trait to have in a friend than just a boring, uninspired person. I tell myself that at least lol

lol yeah you're right, I just remember being so angry as a kid that I was coming up with these great jokes and no one ever got them

yup i had a joke book too that was very cringe later in life to read but it kinda reminded me that at one point, i really just only wanted to make people laugh (including myself) which is a thing i can honestly say i love about myself. really did help me out when i was going through a massive depressive spell later in life. i still even feel insecure saying something like that about myself but tbh it's important to find those things you can love yourself for

Flying! I had a recurring dream as a kid where I'd be flying over the playground at school, more or less Mario 64 style.

Telekinesis gang as well. It covers so many other powers, super strength? Why bother, I'll use my dang mind to move whatever. Flying? I'll just lift myself with my awesome cool brain. If I could get real precise with it I could just split a fucking atom whenever I felt like it. Best power.

        :this:

        No more firestorms please.

I think part of it is that it's less flashy, and unless you include something like nature/plants (decidedly not earth) or metal, it doesn't have a unique 'creative' application like water -> healing.

        But earth is cool.

A lot of interpretations include plants and for some reason, poison. I just wanna punch the ground and make spikes come up

One of the coolest uses I've ever seen is from the game Sacrifice, the game is set on floating islands, and the strongest earth spell simply makes a chunk of the map fall off. Only flying units can go there anymore. You have a fairly close third-person camera and spells are pretty large-scale, so it's actually fucking frightening to see a football field sized hole just caving into open sky in front of you
