P.S. A new official ending got released 1-2 weeks ago and it made the whole thing worse.

This is one of those things that never works.

this is a common problem with almost all literature, unless you start with the ending and work your way back to the beginning most endings feel rushed or unsatisfaying

I tend to think this is a problem with plot-based works because they inevitably run out of steam, cleverness, set up a payoff they cannot deliver, or collapse on their own convolutions. A character can be continually complexed, a plot cannot -- they set their own time limit and have limits on their depth.

Anime I liked with really good endings:

Jojo Part 1, Jojo Part 2 Patlabor (OVA continuity, that is the second movie as the ending point.) Little Witch Academia Mob Psycho 100 (S1, S2 and the manga + REIGEN spinoff manga) Irresponsible Captain Tylor (1993 anime and 1994 OVA, despite being unfinished, had a really good story arc ending) Welcome to the NHK

There's two seasons covering 90/100 chapters of the manga, but the final 10 chapters and the manga spin-off REIGEN (set after the ending) remain unadapted. Imo there's enough material there to make a 1980s-style multi-episode OVA if not a full Season 3.

Nevertheless, both seasons have a very satisfying conclusion and work well even as stand-alone stories.

I feel so vindicated for my post from a while back. People didnt trust the vibes man. They spent that whole ass first season talking like little creeps with their conservative language, and the direction was always choosing the wrong themes. But all my comrades here were ahcktuallying me like I had misquoted marx or something

Wow, well kinda glad Im a bit behind on it then. Hate it when I invest all this time on something only for it to end badly

I remember reading a few years back in an interview with the author that he said his planned ending would stir up a lot of controversy and that he was thinking whether or not to follow through with jt or make a new ending that the readers would enjoy.

Obviously he stuck to his guns and to the end lmao.

A new official ending got released 1-2 weeks ago and it made the whole thing worse. I know people that liked the ending that now absolutely loathe the series.

    No fucking way!

It'd be more cathartic if half of the backlash wasn't fans who were super shocked that the series goal wasn't the successful genocide of Eren Yeager super cool guy
