On this day, the Nanchang Uprising began. It was the first major KMT–Communist engagement of the Chinese Civil War, begun by the Chinese Communists to counter the Shanghai massacre of 1927 by the Kuomintang.

The KMT established a "Revolutionary Committee" at Nanchang to plant the spark that was expected to ignite a widespread peasant uprising. Deng Yanda, Song Qingling and Zhang Fakui (who later crushed the uprising) were among the political leaders.

Military forces in Nanchang under the leadership of He Long and Zhou Enlai rebelled in an attempt to seize control of the city after the end of the first Kuomintang-Communist alliance. Other important leaders in this event were Zhu De, Ye Ting, and Liu Bocheng.

Communist forces successfully occupied Nanchang and escaped from the siege of Kuomintang forces by 5 August, withdrawing to the Jinggang Mountains of western Jiangxi.

The rebellion was initially planned to take place during the night of July 30, but due to complications with Zhang Guotao it was postponed until the next day. On the morning of 1 August 1927, at exactly 2:00 a.m., Communist troops attacked the city of Nanchang from different directions. Four hours later they took the city, capturing 5,000 small arms and around 1,000,000 rounds of ammunition.

Facing a counterattack from the Nationalists, the Communists decided to retreat south towards the province of Guangdong. Once there they would try to take over the city of Guangzhou while spreading their influence to the peasants and farms in that area.

The 1st of August was later regarded as the anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army and the first action fought against the Kuomintang and the National Revolutionary Army. Today marks the 94th anniversary of the founding of the PLA. :mao-clap:

Perhaps you can spot without any algebra or extended calculation that the seaplane goes 200 miles while the ship goes another 20.

When?

  • (A) A crafty hexbear :hexbear-retro: goes to lunch not long after noon. As they leave they observe the exact placement of a clock’s hands. On their return they notice that the minute and hour hand have exchanged places. When do they return?

  • (B) I go for a walk :dio-walk: , for more than 2 hours but less than 3. When I return the minute and hour hands have exchanged places. How much longer than 2 hours did the walk last?

  • (3) A young hexbear :sicko-hexbear: begins to solve a problem at the time between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m when the clock’s hands are together. They finish when the minute hand is exactly opposite the hour hand. How many minutes does it take them to solve the problem, when do they finish it?

Like usual have fun with these :soviet-heart: and remember to dm @Wmi the answer.

This Friday we're gonna have a Spanish Movie Friday, there should be a Nominations post for movie candidates either today or tomorrow, so be on the look out for that.

Lol that’s thing, us too! Ours left us months waiting to get shit fixed and when we moved in the house was in a complete shit show of a state. (Spiders everywhere, outlets didn’t work, it was fucking Filthy. They showed it to us with the lights off ) As fucked as stuff was, not much, it was still in better state than when we moved in. If anything the asshole should have paid us lol

When I complained about how it was when i moved in the real estate agent had the gall to say “well for what you pay it isn’t gonna be perfect.” We were paying 1500 dollars a month lmao. Htf do you need to pay, what, 2? 3 thousand dollars to have a decent place to live?!

My ex landlord died lmao. They were a very racist old person, that took advantage of gentrification to increase the rent massively and force me out, so my sympathy is not very high.

          CW racism

I remember when they were showing the place for people that wanted to rent it, and a couple showed up, very interested. But the landlord said the place was taken already, because they didn't want black people living there. Absolute scum hope their death was very painful.

Also stole half the deposit for repainting, but the paint was already peeling off the walls when I first arrived there.

I just assume this is standard for landlord tbh. Shit like that has happened to me so many times.

Got a psych appointment, and it felt more like a job interview panel or a police interrogation as I was up against three other psychs assessing me with all my documents copied between them, and the lead guy felt very hostile, questioned everything I said and compared it to the file and previous statements like a lawyer cross-examining me for holes in my testimony, scoffed dismissively when I said never wanted to work again, and when I pointed out that I had zero faith in psych treatments he sorta joked with the rest of the panel asking "What do you have faith in?".

Feeling real confident about what's to come next, folks!

The flowers on bell peppers are so big, I've been trying to hand pollinate it with flowers from my other peppers but I dont know how much pollen got transferred. It's a bonchi that I grew to fit in this one thing that I cant use right now so it's just super small and cute with a huge flower :crush:

From what I can tell yeah :blob-no-thoughts: right now I have bell, cayenne, Anaheim, and maybe jalapeño but I dont remember. I've seen people make them from over wintered peppers too

Very interesting. I've got habaneros that are doing great right now, but one of my cayennes came back from the dead and grew a four inch pepper. I might try to nurture that one and see if I can winter it, and then make a cayenne bonchi 😊

Well I found out why none of my friends were going to the pub last night. It turns out that they all went to someone's 21st, and none of them invited me, and seemingly coordinated to not tell me it was on. They all acted like they were doing different things. So now I feel like shit :deeper-sadness:

you ever think about how honey doesn't rot when stored properly. that shit is wild. they've found honey in Pharaohs tombs before. how many thousands of generations of bees have died since that honey was harvested and sat in a tomb for thousands of years
