Every invasion, fewer and fewer locals are willing to work with the US as the history repeats, still feel horrible for the people who decided liberals would be less terrible than fundamentalists and are going to be killed because the Americans pretend nothing can be done because of paperwork.

Immigration and full rewards as a veteran of the US Military should be bare minimum if they have you as a local translator/collaborator.

But really America should stop with the invasions, they are horrible at actually occupying territory, only good at killing people.

I mean, the US could always just give him asylum here. But nope! Biden and the DNC want to win over those white suburban reactionaries, and they're not too crazy about having some brown person move in next door, sooooo....

I think they know we’re committed to leaving at this point. But they want to make us feel bad about leaving. They don’t want to set the precedent that us leaving is a good thing. Every withdrawal is supposed to be a tragedy and a failed opportunity

They say this because they're fishing for an excuse to stay longer but man wouldn't it be funny if the Taliban actually took it that fast. 20 years of suffering for nothing.

If the Taliban takes Kabul on the anniversary on 9/11 or the invasion of Afghanistan...

On 9/11 the Taliban is in Kabul and their Biggest Big Kahuna gives a rousing speech...

Good morning. In less than an hour, Hilux from here will join others from around the region. And we will be launching very minor battles in this history of the Taliban. We have already won. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests.

Perhaps its fate that today is 9/11, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom from tyranny, oppression, and persecution - from the infidels. We're fighting for our rights. And we have already won the day, the 9/11 will no longer be known as an Al-Qaeda holiday, but as the day when we declared in one voice...

We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today, we celebrate our 9/11!

Yeah, you're probably right. The initial flood has been shocking, bit they also haven't faced any real resistance so it's a wash

I think they'll flee long before that. Sure, as logistics gets longer the Taliban advance will slow down, but I can totally see a complete collapse of the Kabul government inside a month.

So do we think the Taliban will be able to maintain power, or will there be more civil war? I can imagine part of the reason why the Taliban has enough popularity to take over Afghanistan is because they are fighting against America.

The Taliban supported the farmers, while the US Army burned their crops - predominantly opium. Opium is drought resistant and sells for far more, essential for those people to pay off their debts and feed their families. Afghanistan like most other developing nations has seen decades of climate disruption, making it the only real option for most living there. Christian Parenti dedicates a lot of Tropic of Chaos to this.

If America actually applied an ounce of developmentalist thinking they would conquer the world.

God I remember reading an article like seventeen years ago now about how US planes were just dumping shit to kill poppies at random after the takeover and how fucked the farmers were by it because they weren’t giving the means to replace crops or survive.

America really cannot occupy countries to save its life. Just point to Japan and Grenada and say “Surely this will happen again!”
