The U.S. hides it by portraying any mildly redistributive policy as three beers from Literally Hitler (remember, Stalin = Hitler). Therefore, whatever terrible stuff we're forced to do may be regrettable, but it's ultimately heading off something much worse.
That's where the power in the "communism killed 100 million people" lie comes from. Because if by it's nature, communism kills a lot, then we're justified in killing a couple million in Vietnam because Uncle Ho would have killed ten times that.
The 100 million number was absolutely a CIA op, and a very effective one at that.
Yup, that's exactly the point. Make communism synonymous with the worst thing that can happen to a country, lube up that slippery slope to the point where "maybe we should have child labor laws" = communism, and pretty soon you're destroying a village in order to save it (from communism).
Glad to have all this as evidence to pointlessly argue with Wisconsin libs in twitter when even Lula gets assassinated.
Whichever state I live in at any given time is the worst state in the world.
It's the original socialist state that experienced a slow and brutal Republican takeover. It still has a latent left tradition and it's still overall left leaning - despite this the Republicans have a legislative supermajority due to flagrant gerrymandering.
Literally 1 train going from Milwaukee to Madison would permanently turn it into a reliable blue state with room to move left. Which is why the Republicans desperately killed the proposed train project in 2010 despite it being fully federally funded
They all live in Milwaukee and Madison
And yeah you pretty much gotta draw a green dotted line through it to see the lean
it’s still overall left leaning
It's NIMBYs :deeper-sadness:
Sorry. It's exceedingly racist NIMBY's.
e: which, you'd also be right to say is the whole fucking country so...
Used to be an important hotbed for American Socialists, too.
:deeper-sadness:
Milwaukee is a city of contrasts.
I wonder now if they were explicitly only fighting for white labor rights. Settlers does a great job showing how the vast majority of historical labor movements in the u.s. essentially sabotaged themselves by organizing along explicitly racial lines, excluding black workers, and then ultimately blaming them when they got wrecked from the inside by capitalist deal making.
I'm sure people were racist as fuck in 1920 but I think a big factor is that Milwaukee didn't get Black migration until much later than the rest of the North, in like the 60's and 70's
IDK to be honest, though it would not surprise me.
I have a Frank Zeidler biography laying around somewhere I could read and learn a little more about it.
Why will you be arguing with Wisconsin libs specifically about Brazil, that sounds torturous.
Cuz some of them will obviously gonna post about how Brazil is very democracy ackchually cuz their TV says so; and I like to comment on their politics so it's fair I guess they comment on Brazil, the bad thing is them being idiots
Wouldn't it be more fun to troll some more insane coastal power posters though?
Ayy fine government you have there, shame if something happened to it.
Most progressive president in the history of everything
:biden-nibble:
Stop trying to distract us from the really worrying thing; the reduction in infant mortality in Bolivia!
terf jungle, I don't mean trans exclusionary radical feminists, I mean terf in the fake grass because they cut down all the trees.
What if we had a war between the UK and The Houston Oilers?
Would it be TERFs versus Astroturfs?
Just doing a little quality control is all
Carry on, nothing to see here
