The first season is rough, and the second isn't a whole lot better. It picks up in the 3rd, and never slows.
The showrunner for the 1st and 2nd seasons was a sexist ass who caused Gates McFadden to quit until he left. Roddenberry was a visionary, but he kept sticking his nose into things early on, when he should have been leaving the project alone. Things improved as his health failed, though his lawyer also reportedly made a nuisance of himself.
Fun bit of sci-fi nerd trivia: the writer for Code of Honor sold the same premise to the showrunners of Stargate SG-1 for the season 1 episode "Emancipation (S01E04)". To absolutely no one's surprise, the story is just as fucking terrible in a blatant US Air Force propaganda piece as it was in the context of FALGSC.
Just skip if it's too much lol, you won't be missing a whole lot except maybe s1e22 (skin of evil) as it gets called back later on
The Binar episode was reportedly adapted from a script for the aborted Star Trek: Phase II series,. So the age of its writer shows, especially with lines like "Everyone knows that jazz and blondes don't mix."
the showrunner was a sexist and other things all the way into ST:ENT

Yeah, ENT was awful, and finished off whatever progress the franchise had made that Voyager hadn't already shat upon.
TNG is powered by the fullness of Johnathan Frakes' beard, season 3 is seriously like night and day compared to the first two.
lol season 1 has quite a few of those, season 2 tbh. It gets WAY the fuck better during season 3.
Like on rewatches I basically just skip those first 2 seasons, but it's worth watching the first time to see how the show progresses.
As I understand it was very much intentional to have a Kirk-like suave ladies' man character in the main cast in case the fans rejected the stuffy bald British captain
I would say watch "Measure of a Man" and then skip the rest of the way to Season 3. Save 1&2 for when you're good and invested so you don't get burned out early.
But if you're committed to watching them in the order they aired, I hope you enjoy them. TNG is in my top 5 TV shows of all time.
it is but you've got to worry about the federation legal system
we're going to have a very quick tribunal to see if you get executed and stripped for parts. your friend will be the prosecutor and your other, crankier, friend will defend. at some point a man will pull off your arm and wave it about to make a point.
remember that early season story line where the upper command are taken over by brain bugs and there's some carpenter body horror exploding head stuff. great.
