Capitalist apologia is perched forever upon the shoulders of anecdote. Never forget that. Its all they got. They have no systemic analysis. Its just anecdotes all the way down. That's shot. Here's the chaser:
Here's some jackoff kid doubting his father's anecdotes because they kill his jerkoff session. Cry me a fucking river. Sorry you got to disappoint your father and your humanity at the same time in exchange for some upvotes. Great priorities on this one. You can tell he's a real problem solver.
Capitalist apologia is perched forever upon the shoulders of anecdote.
This statement is so powerful I believe even Micheal Parenti would pause for a moment of contemplation.
thats something ive been thinking about. idk if its anecdotes neccessarily, but its has to be a common denominator for everything outside the core. their system is fundamentally flawed and the only thing that works is the core that sucks up from everybody else, why dont it work for them when it does for us? so all these explanations really are just ugly characterizations of the other. really hit me during the eurozone crisis. they refused to believe the euro was bad, so it had to be lazy greeks. corrupt african dictators. communist destabilization in latin america. islam. obv related to intersectional theory but it also manifest in other bizarre ways
Yasha Lavine has this concept of the "weaponized immigrant." Basically how the core picks and chooses who's able to immigrate here. How they invariably favor the exiled bourgeoisie and anticommunists and ensure they get face time and publishing deals.
Also that shit just causes brain drain. The global south pays to educate people, then the west just sucks them up like some nightmare imperialist vacuum machine.
and people try to act like the fact that 140 people got shot trying to flee the GDR for nazi-run West Germany somehow invalidates the project
Seconded. Gotta remember to add this quote to the rotating site header thing. I love it.
Capitalist apologia is perched forever upon the shoulders of anecdote.
"And then we said, 'Okay, Comrade Stalin, you can have one spoonful'... and then he ... and then he..."
we need a two-parter for Stalin and his spoon like we have :stalin-gun-1::stalin-gun-2:
Based russian tankie dad.
Almost every russian immigrant to the US I know are huge free market chuds. I just ignore people when they mention how tough their parent's had it.
they cry about how tough it was but there were literally coal miners in america in the 1970s that still didn’t have electricity or running water
I think in a RevLeftRadio episode they mention that the UN saw conditions, TODAY, in 2021 in Appalachia that are third world levels. Like people having to pipe shit into their backyard because they have no septic tank so you have all these white kids running around with ringworm
Wait, I thought people who lived under the USSR were oppressed and sad and wanted communism to end? :thinking-about-it: hmmmm
You know, as I read more first hand accounts of folks who lived in AES states, I see a common theme: lots of (sometimes deserved) animosity towards their former governments / communist parties, but almost zero criticism of the communist mode of production. Exception for labor aristocrats who emigrated to the west.
It's always like "oh yeah, I didn't like this, this, this" "was it worth it to liberalize" "fuck no what's wrong with you?"
An acquaintance of mine lived in Romania in her 20's. You'd think she'd be the perfect critic of the government, being a university-educated woman.
But no, she's all "The policies were stunningly dumb, especially around children, Ceaușescu was widely despised, and the economy had serious flaws at times, but despite this the system worked, and it's the only time in my entire life I felt safe and optimistic about the future."
I find it absolutely fucking incredible that despite
CeahshshehshuckuCount Choculas mismanagement it still managed to be better than capitalismwtf
More importantly, because many people will lie all the time, even when they have personal experience with the truth, maybe his dad is someone to trust because he doesn't have anything to gain from bullshitting to his son.
Critical support for the homophobic tankie dad
I said critical, he should improve his homophobia.
he should improve his homophobia.
How much more could he improve?
The post doesn't explicitly say the dad is homophobic, just that he "denies the atrocities of USSR or China" who he says were socially conservative to the point that they are "against gay rights".
I don't think I can affirm his position on gay rights one way or another from the original post. The OP criticizes "tankies," partly because he sees them supporting polities like the USSR and China which he says are against gay rights. Then later says his dad is a tankie.
So you see OP's dad, according to OP, doesn't support gay rights only in that he doesn't condemn the PRC and the USSR sufficiently for their perceived social conservatism. I'd like to take a moment and point out that while the USSR was being "against gay rights" until it imploded, we in the free US of A were letting them die of a mystery plague that we really couldn't be bothered to address or talk about. Thankfully, we later were able to finally elect a president to the Whitehouse who advocated for gay marriage in 2012 after the Supreme Court said that it was legal and politically it became safe to do so.
Now in his private time, I'm sure OP's dad is probably just closeted and into rough trade, much like your own.
lmao imagine telling someone who grew up in the USSR you know it better than him
"People who send me :pigpoop: on twitter when I speak out in favor of imperialism"
