This is like the third time this has happened too. :hahaha:

When you build a colonialist grinding simulator but people manage to get around scarcity - oh shit, oh fuck, shut it down - shut it all down; people might end up having fun

best gaming tidbit I heard recently is that the youngins are getting tired of FortNite and going back to minecraft

pretty sure it's because they can sense the endless grind of the highly competitive platform with tons of empty monetizations, and minecraft is much more social and relaxing overall, and they can customize it however they want for the most part

In FF14 it's 12-24 buttons and you're also playing digital DDR while you press them, it's pretty great.

...at higher levels. Unfortunately the first one hundred hours of the game are objectively terrible, which is why they let you skip it for a couple dozen bucks.

The idea is you are supposed to play with friends and screw around doing silly things, making new friends along the way. Companies who make mmos get caught up in meaningless crap that doesn't contribute to that experience too often.

The only MMO I've played that seems to work and not miss that is Foxhole. It is impossible to play without cooperating with ransoms, so it always feels like you are screwing around with friends.

Ugh, I wish Foxhole was more fun to play, I love the idea of every item being made by logi and contributing to the overall war effort but also I don't particularly want to sroop for literally hours. Nor do I really wanna die a lot to a whole lotta cheese lol

My thousands upon thousands of hours in milsims makes it easier. It's so bizzare, all the mechanics are cartoonist and "unrealistic", yet it all clicks together in such a way real life concepts apply perfectly. I've literally never played a game where armor and infantry naturally coordinate as smoothly and naturally as in Foxhole, and it's not even a sim.

If you wanna have fun, comms are key. If you don't know what's going on, ask. If nobody knows, tell people what you know. If nobody has a plan, make a plan and get people to follow it and modify it. There is no such thing as playing alone or staying out of the way. Never wait for something to happen, make things happen or join what is already going on.

Runescape used to be like that, about 15 years ago or so. Now it's all about grinding in the most efficient way possible...

I didn't know the MLM branch of communism was based on dupe glitches, guess I should read more theory.

There's a line in a recent episode of *Lower Decks * here Mariner tells a Ferengi "You know you could just replicate that, right?" Cuz the Ferengi were fighting w someone over...something, I forget. So much encapsulates that post-scarcity thing.

It was the Captain to a race of lizard-person-eating rat people after Mariner liberated the lizard people from their oppressors. One of the first handful of episodes in S01, I think. Something along the lines of, "if we give you replicators, will you stop eating the lizard people?"

Edit: It was further along than I thought; S01E09 - Crisis Point: The Rise of Vindicta. Link:

The scene is in the cold open.

I gave up on this game after the first duping glitch and they didn't shut down servers. I got to level 60 and started doing the end game grind when I saw mass amounts of purples with full void bent armor already because they were just buying all of the ore from the trading post with duped gold, no matter what the price was. Quickest way to kill any fun in the game, and AGS only banned a couple of the dupers so the rest just got away with it.

I've been playing New World and following this series of events.

Amazon have no fucking idea what they're doing and this article sums up just about every single problem that has led to this outcome. It falls on company attitude and Mike Frazzini being a total fucking ghoul.

If you thought corporate culture was bad in EA and Activision for trying to make videogames entirely based on metrics, Amazon has said "hold my beer" and failed spectacularly 3 times now.

New World has been the worst major mmo launch I have ever seen, and I've played them all.

Conventional wisdom inside the company is that if you can run one business, you can run any other.

This is how executives at most companies think. Your role is all about your "caste", not your skills.

Seems to be that they think business management can be completely and utterly sanitised down to a 100% metric-based level.

This fails miserably in creative entertainment because what is "fun" exactly? Fun is determined by what your target audience is first and foremost and then catering to that target audience.

They at no point seemed to know what their target audience was throughout any of the process of development. They still don't seem to know. They have actual real talent at the company but the mismanagement and culture is clearly the problem.
