Being stateless is one of the worst things you can be in the world, and the UK just passed a law letting the government quietly strip citizenship from anyone. The test case was a young British woman who got radicalized by the Wahhabis. She was of Bangledeshi descent but was born in the UK and had no ties to Bangledesh, but that was enough for the UK to strip her of her statehood, leaving her a stateless person. Now they've formalized the process and can do it to anyone they choose, essentially rendering null any pretense of civil rights.

Very cool violation of basic international law

This strikes me as worse than banishment because other countries will not take you in. There's also no wilderness in which to try to live or commons on which to subside.

How long until they brand a whole group of trans-activists as extremists and drop them into the sea without citizenships? :ukkk:

Since this is Br*tain, I assumed that in about two months the conversation will suddenly shift to "gender extremists"

And Muslims, people of Pakistani or Indian descent, and probably climate protestors and that Insulate UK movement.

Denmark has something similar, although at the time of writing they can only do it to naturalized citizens. If the minister of integration thinks you have done an extremism, an Islamic one to be more precise, they'll take your citizenship away without trial and notify you through the government's electronic mail system.

If you think they did so illegally (which they didn't, they made the law to give themselves plenty of leeway) you have to pay for bringing a civil suit against the government.

They'll do this shit but liberals absolutely fly off the wall of you mention the concept of "re-education" even in good faith.

I don’t know much about international law, but isn’t it illegal to make a person stateless? Aren’t you only allowed to revoke citizenship if they’re a citizen of another country? I mean obviously international law is a joke and doesn’t apply to Anglo countries but still

What are the consequences of this? Not doubting them, just not sure what happens after someone is stateless

You have no rights. You cannot enter any country, cannot work, cannot own property or open a bank account or anything. Imagine the most abject illegal immigrant in the US and then imagine that they would be refused entry in wherever the US dumped them because they had noi nationality.

It amounts to a death sentence unless some country takes pity on you and lets you in as a refugee.

A friend of mine had a hold put on their passport because their very common name was identical to someone known to associate with isis. But I'm sure the UK doesn't make that error regularly.
