As the world grapples with the new Omicron coronavirus variant, China is determined as ever to eliminate Covid-19 within its borders -- but it hasn't been able to achieve that ambitious goal for the past seven weeks.

Since October 17, China has reported at least one locally transmitted case everyday...

As proof of the success of these measures, not a single Covid-related death has been reported in the country since late January.

Feel like they're burying the lead...

Meanwhile, here in Norway we have had a "zero traffic deaths" goal for years.

And yet people still die in traffic accidents. Curious.

I'm sure CNN will get right on that.

NYC has the same thing with "vision zero" since 2014 and peds and cyclists are killed all the time in scenarios that could be fixed with proper infrastructure

It’s almost like Zero Covid is an aspirational goal and not “literally sustain zero cases of Covid over a long period of time.”

Nobody actually thinks you can get it all the way to zero. The goal is to get as close to it as possible.

Punishing officials for fucking up is literally 1984 /s

Over the weekend, the city fired two officials for their "slow and weak response" to the outbreak -- one for delaying the transfer and quarantine of more than 100 close contacts, and the other for his poor management of quarantine hotels, state media reported. Another four officials were criticized for their lackluster performances.

Isn't the chud complaint about "you can't fire anyone for incompetence" in the public sector? And how the private sector is superior because low performers get the boot?

Honestly, at the point, I don't think anyone other than some very good science could convince me that COVID started in China. I think they were probably just the first ones to pay attention. CNN is trying to do a hit piece, and they can't help but make China look incredibly competent and rational.
