Smdh Australia's so backwards they're doing a potato famine era racism towards the Irish.

I don't see how this is different from any anti-immigrant sentiment: more demand for housing, more competition for jobs, the usual talking points

Australia’s racism couldn’t be confined to the 21st century, they had to reach back and pull out some antique racism. Kicking the Irish back out of whiteness.

Probably in the USA people stopped caring about whether or not you were Irish some time after the 1940s. In the UK anti-irish racism continued throughout the troubles well into the 90s, and there are still some English people who have stuck with the good old tradition of hating Irish people (though much less now).

americans learned to accept the irish after a famous politician of irish extraction dedicated his life to transparency, even going so far as to show the inside of his mind to the american people.

I'm honestly surprised neo-nazis haven't tried doing the aryan neo-pagan thing with the irish yet: white skin, red hair, vaguely pagan celtic aesthetics co-opted as like a second pole of aryan ubermensch.

They do have some but half of it is inside clearly legendary and incredibly funny book which cannot be repurposed for fash, and the other half is very old, badly documented and have names straight out of Robert Howard stories.

Also later, and much better documented are Irish struggles against two of the favourite groups of western fash: vikings and Brits.

"And most important of all! Every industrial and commercial centre in England now possesses a working class divided into two hostile camps, English proletarians and Irish proletarians. The ordinary English worker hates the Irish worker as a competitor who lowers his standard of life. In relation to the Irish worker he regards himself as a member of the ruling nation and consequently he becomes a tool of the English aristocrats and capitalists against Ireland, thus strengthening their domination over himself. He cherishes religious, social, and national prejudices against the Irish worker.... This antagonism is the secret of the impotence of the English working class, despite its organization. It is the secret by which the capitalist class maintains its power. And the latter is quite aware of this."

It's actually concerning how true this is in Aus. The correlation of your family being well off and them being a nominal member of Anglican/Scottish Prebyrtarian denominations compared to catholic/other protestant/any other religion approaches 1.

This isn't about the Irish. It never is, this is about foreigners. There are a lot of these people in this country, our racist anti-immigration folks are probably larger per percentage of population than the US. This person is talking about immigrants. Not Irish people, they're saying "Irish" here because they know if they say "brown people" they'll be shouted down for saying the quiet part out loud. So they dip into old school anti-Irish racism as a smokescreen. Surprised they didn't use Italians tbh, probably couldn't find an article to back up their racism with "science."

Ireland is one of the most expensive places in the world but the only jobs that can really keep up with increasing prices of everything are like, American tech companies and pharmaceuticals. So anyone who doesn't have expertise in those areas will either struggle to ever own a house or have to emigrate

I love how the op sees one news.com.au article because it mentions Irish in Australia, olmate reads the thing because he assumes it's about other McLeary's in Australia, realises it's not, and starts blaming them for the housing crisis (which is due to white boomers).
