It seems to me that the US has started to push hard on the idea that Putin is unstable.

"The US has solid intelligence that Putin is frustrated and expressing unusual bursts of anger at people in his inner circle over the state of the military campaign so far and the worldwide condemnation of his actions," according to 2 current US officials.

I wonder how long it'll be until talking heads start to openly do a US approved spectulation schtick "Is regime change a possiblity for Russia?"

I can hear Lawrence O'Donnell's voice in my head "Vladimir Putin had a very bad week..."

Putin is definitely the type of guy who would allow people in his orbit to leak details like this to the CIA.

"Putin is insane, unhinged" has been a talking point for like a decade or more... not saying he's not, but it's just a bit now. I'm really curious wtf is actually going on behind all the propaganda on each side. I may never know, though.

Isn’t he literally one of the richest people on earth, if you track his offshore accounts? We’re always talking about how insane money makes people I don’t really see how hard it is for someone in his position to completely lose their grip on the real world.

Bush Sr came from a wealthy NE dynasty so a lot of that was inherited, or came from his fake oil ventures/CIA cover.

More importantly though, Putin isn’t Stalin or Xi or Kim, he’s the head of a capitalist petrostate resulting from Chicago school economic policy. I know it’s important to doubt CIA reports but they also predicted the invasion (wrong time but w/e) and context clues matter here. You have examples of how “weird” he’s been with the Sochi games and the poisonings in the UK.

It’s been said he keeps the “oligarchs”/billionaires around because they give him cuts, which I don’t think is unreasonable or out of character for capitalist leaders at all. But given the mafia quality of the Russian state, being in that dangerous and powerful a position for 20 years will fuck with anyones head.

At the end of the day I don’t really see this “unhinged” report as far fetched and I don’t have any incentive to give him the benefit of the doubt like with an AES leader.
