Yes, copyright law is mostly done through international treaties with virtually no input from working class people. Most places in the world has a copyright period of 70 years after the death of the author.

Just to be clear, copyright has ceased to advance to newer works for one reason and one reason only: if copyright expiration went past 1930 or so, Mickey Mouse would become a public domain character just like Snow White or Cinderella or Aladdin or Paul Bunyan or Johnny Appleseed or Gilgamesh.
This is something that Disney will never allow - but for the first time ever, they've got some real opposition. Boy did they make the right angry.
