yeah i get that theres an association with weird MRAs but making fun of all anti-circumcision stances is a very uncritical view that i see too much in leftist spaces
I remember that the Chapo boys used to mock intactivists, but then they fortunately had a change of heart. Felix said that we'll look back on it the way that people used to mock anti Iraq War demonstrators.
The presence of the foreskin allows surgeons to make better vaginas during bottom surgery.
I agree with the consent argument. Because circumcision is a medically pointless (at best) procedure that is permanent and irreversible. Vaccines and medicines not only have a clear medical benefit with little-to-no downsides, they are generally not permanent.
I'm all for children's rights and I'm definitely against things like piercing infants' ears. But as a parent you do have to make a lot of "nonconsensual" decisions for babies because they cannot make any decisions themselves. The difference is there's a clear benefit. When my kid is screaming with an earache technically me giving them ibuprofen is nonconsensual, but it's obvious why I'm doing it.
It's the fixation that's weird. Like, yeah, be upset. But don't you have anything more important to care about? Like things that are affecting people every day. Women's rights, worker's rights, food shortages, even voting rights have more of an impact than whether or not some guy had 2% of his penis skin. I was circumcised and I don't ever really think about it except when talking about penis with the lads or someone specifically asks, it doesn't affect my life.
Don't think the guy in the photo cares about literally anything else.
Also losing the ridged band completely, which is as sensitive as the frenulum and can allow some people to achieve multiple orgasms in a short period of time.
The fact that is area of the penis was only "discovered" and anatomically recorded in the late 1990s is really a failure of modern medicine.
This isn't trying to be an MRA incel about it or anything, just wondering how an oversight like this was possible.
Isn't that when they fed kids oatmeal laced with radioactive metals to try make unironic super soldiers, or cure disabilities or something?
:amerikkka:
Kelleogs cereal being involved in eugenics and gential mutilation is such a :amerikkka-clap: moment
My circumcision makes my penis tear and bleed when I masturbate and makes it difficult for me to achieve orgasm during sex.
Circumcision also causes permanent psychological damage.
You don't know what you're talking about. Fuck off.
"I was sexually assaulted so that gives me the right to mock other SA survivors."
Comparing circumcision to SA is certainly the hottest take I've heard today
Because comparing something that happened before I could even form long-term memories and has had no other impact on my life other than my dick theoretically not working as well as it could otherwise to having your bodily autonomy forcibly violated and having to relive that experience for the rest of your life is pretty fucked dude
Do you believe that having your genitals permanently altered without consent is not a violation of bodily autonomy?
Do you believe that people who were assaulted in their sleep cannot be emotionally impacted by their assault?
Circumcision causes permanent psychological damage despite the lack of long-term conscious memory.
-
I do, and that's why I insisted my son not be circumcised
-
I'm really not going to indulge you in this analogy any further.
-
Imagine if a person was sexually assaulted while they were in a coma. They have no conscious memory of the abuse, but they are emotionally disturbed by the fact that someone violated them while they were helpless. Now imagine that this person has physical scars from the assault that they carry with them for the rest of their lives. Would you berate this person for feeling upset?
Do you see the similarities?
I stand by the analogy.
That's still going to be a pretty big yikes from me dog
Back at ya. I'm not the one here who's trying to minimize people's experiences. I think SA is horrendous.
I have depression over being circumcised. Glad to know I'm funny to you.
It’s not a “cosmetic” surgery and no parent is thinking that they want their infant child to have a sexier penis.
"Cosmetic" is used to convey that the surgery is elective and not therapeutic.
Genital cutting of both sexes is also often done partially for the perceived benefit to the child's future sexual partner. This goes hand in hand with conformity. Circumcision promoters routinely argue that it looks better. I don't think acknowledging these facts is anti-feminist. Men are still the primary promoters of male circumcision. If an MRA tries to tell you that it's women's fault they're wrong.
I agree that the trauma of the infant should be central. It bothers me when people say that "it doesn't matter because they won't remember it". If I were able to erase someone's memory in the future, would that make it okay for me to abuse them in the present? A conscious memory is also not necessary for there to be a negative psychological impact.
Really gotta wonder what was going on the mind of the first guy that decided to cut a baby's cock.
I have unfortunate news about some of the other rituals involved with the pratice
Genital cutting of both sexes is perhaps motivated by a desire to enforce a strict binary between the sexes. The foreskin is perceived as overly feminine because it's fleshy and invaginated, and the clitoris is perceived as overly masculine because it's phallic. :the-more-you-know:
Cutting the genitals of children is always abhorrent, their sex is irrelevant.
And at the end lots of foreskins are used in high end cosmetics.
Just :what: vibes at every step in the process, and all because John Lithgow's character from Footloose thought it would curb sexual impulses in boys.
It is real, and pretty strange. Kind of the same vibes as rich people getting blood transfusions from children.
few weeks ago, Cate Blanchett told Vogue about a treatment she received at Georgia Louise, an upmarket New York salon which is so expensive that it refers to itself as an atelier. "She gives what we call the 'penis facial' and … there's some enzyme in it, so Sandy refers to it as the 'penis facial,'" Blanchett said. The quote was discreetly removed from Vogue’s website, but not before spurring a series of “penis facial” headlines.
:kombucha-disgust:
oh its a stem cell thing
This whole article is bursting with ghoulish quotes.
Babble.com, a parenting magazine and blog network, reports that instead of being discarded with the rest of the medical waste after birth, some hospital sell foreskins on to third parties, and that “companies will pay thousands of dollars for a single foreskin.” However, this information isn’t available to the public.
in the USA circumcision became a secular matter because of the anti-masturbation quack Dr. Kellog. Even Christian children were largely circumcised throughout the 20th century. Circumcision should be abolished either way.
Sort of, but the anti-masturbation (and broadly anti-sensuous pleasure) beliefs of J.H. Kellogg were very much informed by his Seventh Day Adventist beliefs, and comported well with the general puritan Christian morality that pervaded American culture to an even greater degree at the time.
yeah i was pointing it out for those who don't live in the USA because it's a unique weirdness that I think is only found here. I don't think it happens in England but I could be wrong about that.
Circumcision is cringe but the nazis get weirdly hung up on it because they assume it's some kind of Jewish plot to take over Christian societies rather than just being a kinda fucked up ritual that is incidental to their culture.
US spread circumcision to south korea which now has an even higher rate than the US iirc
oh no oh fuck I hope this doesn't lead into a struggle session here like it always does on reddit
There are all sorts of struggles that can bring the masses into politics. I think lenin said that.
Remember when that guy filled the Silent Hill wiki with his theories about how the series was an extended anti-circumcision metaphor

Found an article from 2015 about it
Scientists are actually working on this after they anatomically doctumented certain parts of the foreskin in the late 90s.
i think that's mainly a rhetorical tactic used to draw the apt comparison to FGM, and how it's hypocritical for anyone to (rightfully) criticise that practice while endorsing AMAB circumcision
I prefer using the issue to highlight the importance of bodily autonomy and feminism. Fascists have always used real negative material conditions to promote their ideology by misassigning the real cause. E.g., they say that poverty is caused by Jews rather than capitalism.
There is a balance to be made between conveying the horror of what is done with not making the victims feel damaged and worthless. The same issue arises with FGC. Many intactivists prefer the term "genitcal cutting" because it's more neutral and upsets people less. That being said, it's still technically mutilation. Sometimes you have to call a spade a spade.
I mean they're right, just don't be an MRA freak about it.
Also in certain cultures people still do initiation rituals involving teenagers getting circumcisions by untrained individuals, leading to deaths. Just to be clear, I have no problem with initiation as a cultural practice, if the people involved consent then go for it, but please get a medical professional or get the person doing the circumcisions properly trained so people don't die.
Also USAID does imperialist BS in Sub Saharan Africa promoting the myth of circumcision as a way to avoid HIV/AIDS. Instead of you know, actually doing something useful to slow the spread of HIV like giving out condoms.
Also, being uncircumcised makes it much easier to achieve multiple non ejaculatory orgasms in a row due to increased sensitivity, and makes it possible to have multiple ejaculatory orgasms in a short period of time though stimulating the ridged band of the foreskin and shortening the refactory period.
