Those who advocate less support for Ukraine and more pressure on it to negotiate, inclusive of accepting painful territorial renunciations, like to repeat that Ukraine simply cannot win the war against Russia. True, but I see exactly in this the greatness of Ukrainian resistance: they risked the impossible, defying pragmatic calculations, and the least we owe them is full support, and to do this, we need a stronger Nato – but not as a prolongation of the US politics.

He’s fucking lost it. He’s trying to thread a needle that no one is going to. You just give full throated support to NATO giving weapons to Ukraine but somehow in a way that doesn’t increase US power over Europe? That’s literally impossible. Him bringing up the need to support freedom for Julian Assange at the end is the cherry on top. He’s arguing to support the exact forces trying to put Assange in jail.

Never had it to begin with. The dude a petty bougeois, socdem at best, ivory tower professor who's entire career has been spent in academia as a member of the intelligentsia.

He was never a comrade, an ally, or even a fellow traveler. At best he was a meme and at worst a petty bourgeois torch bearer for capital misguiding people on the socialist path away from it.

At the risk of attracting :funny-clown-hammer:, it's like when everyone liked Destiny for a week because he was dunking on Nazis. He was never good and has since revealed that he's pretty bad, but man he fucking destroyed Jordan Peterson that one time.

zizek is useful as an intellectual against other more reactionary figures.

zizek is a feral trash possum given human form, a stray dog with mange that mauls pigs in back alleys, a roaming scavenger that gorges himself on overturned dumpsters filled with urban mulch. we should never look to a syphilitic hyena covered in its own vomit as a source of credible theory

you send zizek after figures that need to be humiliated and would otherwise waste a better leftist's time. zizek is only motivated by intellectual games and not practicality

It's OK. He didn't actually research the dispute at all. He's just judging it based on the headlines he's read about it like he does with movies.

As far as I can tell, most European and American Communists are Anti-Communists. Makes sense to have a Left Anti-Communist be their representative.

So how many more Ukrainians are you willing to get slaughtered, Slavoj? Just give us a number - maybe another 50,000? So you will just let that many souls die painful, pointless deaths all because you're taken in by the narrative?

Jfc this is why I hate philosophers. Zizek treating support for war and the death of thousands like he's rooting on some scrappy all-glove no-bat middle infielder making a diving stop. "He just hustles and plays the game the right way, he deserves my support".

Also, who is "THEY"? Ukrainians are fighting back in no small part because their government has forced them to fight back and die needlessly or be used as human shields. He acts like Ukraine is an entity in and of itself, one who's people are not directly impacted by their government's policy which they don't choose. Lot of people are not defying "pragmatic calculations", their government is refusing to entertain the idea of peace

From the rightist standpoint, Ukraine fights for European values against the non-European authoritarians; from the leftist standpoint, Ukraine fights for global freedom, inclusive of the freedom of Russians themselves. That’s why the heart of every true Russian patriot beats for Ukraine.

Fucking drivel, what is this moron talking about.
