"As a fellow survivor, I forgot that what binds us is our shared trauma. But for most of America, Donald Trump was that trauma..."
They're already laying the groundwork to blame Bernie. I expect them to actually blame him two-fold. First, they will relitigate 2016 with the "Bernie didn't do enough to help Biden," despite my being bombarded with Bernie emails pushing Biden and anti-Trump. Second, they will say that Bernie's support of Biden actually drove away moderates because Bernie is too radical, and actually he should have stepped back from the campaign.
They will never acknowledge that these two things cannot be true at the same time, and that the problem is actually Biden.
This is, of course, if Trump somehow wins again. At this point, I give it 50/50 odds.
I agree with all of this. But I think it's a toss-up. I think 2016 was also basically a toss-up.
With mail-in ballots, anything could happen. We could "oops" lose hundreds of thousands (or millions) of votes, or they could get counted in key states and actually expand ballot access. This one is so wide open I'd feel foolish trying to predict it.
I have a sinking feeling that Biden will somehow win and take a harsh law and order stance, potentially giving police even more resources to round up protesters, but now the libs accept it because it's a fucking Dem doing it instead of the nasty orange man.
I live in Florida and the enthusiasm gap is real.
So do I and I see Biden signs and bumper stickers all the time, far more than I ever saw for Hillary. Anecdotal evidence doesn't mean anything. Trump will still probably win Florida, I'm just saying that the number of signs you see doesn't mean shit.
There's someone in my neighborhood with an Israeli flag, a Trump Pence 2020 yard sign, and a Black Lives Matter banner. Most Americans have pudding for brains.
First, they will relitigate 2016 with the “Bernie didn’t do enough to help Biden,” despite my being bombarded with Bernie emails pushing Biden and anti-Trump.
Bernie has done so much damage to his brand since conceding just to bend the knee and kiss the ring. "Most progressive candidate in American history", etc. Almost. Almost made me not like him anymore. But it's so crazy to think how ridiculous it'll be for them to play that card.
But it’s so crazy to think how ridiculous it’ll be for them to play that card.
That's why he bent the knee -- to prevent this from working.
They already tried it after 2016 and it never really caught on because Bernie went out of his way to campaign for Clinton. They're going to try it again and it'll fail again for the same reason. Bernie is smart enough to know that taking your ball and going home only hurts you when you've already lost. If he went up on stage and called Biden a rapist he'd poison the well for the next quarter century of leftists.
It's not pretty, but there are no pretty solutions anymore.
The reason the "Bernie bros go vote" rhetoric exists is not to actually elect Biden, it is planting seeds for blaming the loss on the left. That way they don't have to do any introspection and can continue chasing the republicans rightwards.
My personal pick is blaming "white anarchists" or "antifa" for scaring away the suburban white people.
They want to blame the whole BLM protest movement so bad but they know that's a bad look, so instead they go after "antifa".
yeah right, we're gonna get bernie bros, third party voters, russia, and "we just weren't ready for a catholic and a black woman on a ticket."
“we just weren’t ready for a catholic and a black woman on a ticket.”
Oh god damnit. That sounds way more plausible.
weren’t ready for a catholic
Well, we did just thoroughly reject a Kennedy, so maybe they're right. I don't have a problem with "not being ready for a Catholic" though.
It took almost three years for JFK to get it through his head that the people of Texas wouldn't suffer a Catholic in the White House.
"But maybe there's signs for future hope and optimism. The stock market is still roaring, White Fragility is still flying off the shelves, and the DNC raised a record $4.2 billion, which sets us up for the future. Buttigieg 2024, anyone?"
"And by the way, ladies -- I can't vouch for its authenticity -- but the scuttlebutt around the rumor mill is that Mayor Pete -- has had relations with women in the past! So put on that fresh pantsuit and get ready to "harness" some of Pete's Obama energy!"
"Under my administration, we sent peace keepers to Afghanistan one last time, specifically to areas with rare earth mineral deposits, to root out the Taliban once and for all while bringing quality mining jobs to those impoverished areas, ensuring a bright economic future for the silent and dignified middle class of Afghanistan." - President Pete 2028
Yeah except none of that will happen.
If Biden loses, BLM, Antifa, Bernie, and the left will be blamed, as always.
"I was okay with the protests until they turned into riots. The looters and antifa represent the new fringe Left. Bernie promised them everything for free, so of course his cult of followers took that mindset to the streets!"
The left will never not be blamed, so we need to get this idea that mainstream political commentary farms like CNN will ever be fair to the left out of our heads, it's an unproductive fantasy.
We must be aware of these outlets and work to give them as little ammunition against the left as possible, but we cannot get distracted by whatever appeals to decorum they might make while people fight for their right to not be murdered in their house in the middle of the night by a police officer.
They're just gonna blame it on poor people. I don't see that much criticism of Hillrod, she still has her Kweens
They'll never reflect on the loss, and we'll see headlines like "Perhaps Liberals dont molest enough?"
If he wins, honestly can't wait for the Nathan J Robinson apologia
