Combined with additional climate diplomacy with key countries like China, financial sanctions would ensure that addressing the climate crisis remains at the center of U.S. foreign and national security strategy.

Edward J. Markey

Veronica Escobar

Bernard Sanders

Elizabeth Warren

Literally only the four of them. This wasn't even just some "sign on to whatever" thing. They specifically used their "progressive" cred to attack China and promote the use of economic sanctions.

lmao, China, the only country that has met their meager Paris Accord agreements (and a few years earlier than target at that). Yea, ok, nothing 'cold war' about that at all.

They also have a pretty good track record when it comes to actually meeting the goals they set.

Meanwhile, the ministry of transportation in my country has guidelines that they should abide by the Paris Accord, but as them how they reconcile that with the fact that they're planning to build more highways and its crickets.

    1. Bernie Sanders has always been a social imperialist. He supported the invasion of Afghanistan. He supported the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. :astronaut-1:

    2. Vijay Prashad tears apart this imperialist bullshit of blaming China for climate change.

The United States, 4-5% of the world's population, still uses 25% of the world's resources. You outsource production to China, and then you say "China is the carbon polluter!" China is producing your buckets. China is producing your nuts and bolts. China is producing your phones. Try to produce it in your own countries and see your carbon emissions rise!

and our corporations in the US urge the workers to blame themselves. for this "25%" of the world's resources. They say to the American worker "You consume too much. You don't recycle enough. You don't drive a good enough vehicle. " And while that may be partly true, and there are small choices we can make to improve the state of our "carbon footprint" that is mostly bullshit to let the rich off the hook. The military is the biggest polluter. The rich consume far more than the workers. The bourgeois-run city governments refuse to invest in public transportation. They refuse to make walkable cities with mixed-use residential zones. They insist on car-centered design and suburban sprawl. They insist on a culture single-family home ownership. Bosses shame workers for not owning their own vehicle. Most of the recycling that gets picked up never actually gets recycled, it gets incinerated. If it does get recycled, the recycling process is often very destructive to the environment. The supermarkets throw out millions of tons of expired food and lock the dumpsters to keep out homeless people and price gouge. There is a refusal to reduce emissions or transition to green energy. All of the problems with America's consumption of resources are systemic, and the system is run by the bourgeoisie, and is a dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. So telling people that the solution is putting out their recycling and driving a tesla is absurd.

Honestly, the one hope I have for the future is that China decarbonizes the economy that all the western nations manufacturer out of.

God forbid Americans bring their industry home under current leadership. We'll be draining mercury into our aquafiers and stuffing our vacant skyscrapers with pig shit before the turn of the next decade.

Yeah it's like dealing with climate change can't even be the goal of this request. It's literally just to slow China's rise. The article doesn't mention any of the like 20 different countries that pollute more per-capita, even though some of them, like Japan, Germany, South Korea, etc. have much higher per-capita emissions, and a lot of countries that are higher don't produce nearly as much value as China does from their manufacturing. What value does the US or Germany provide to the world that requires such high CO2 usage?

While it is promising that the PRC announced it will stop building coal-fired projects in other countries, the PRC is the largest emitter of global carbon emissions, and the United States must work to ensure that its development finance institutions do not undermine global de- carbonization efforts

    wtf wtf wtf

    textbook social imperialism.

Is this the patriotic socialism I've been hearing about?

Edit: just read the screen shots. More seriously: they realize US carbon emissions per capita are double China's right? China's the largest carbon emitter cuz 1 out of every 6 or 7 people live in China.

This is also from 2021, so not sure what came of it or is in the works from it

What really pisses me off is that even if I were still a lib who didn't love China, this isn't what I would want right now

Our goddamned enemies are in this country and they're literally murdering us in the streets on a damn near daily basis

Florida just created their own army, even if I were still a lib I'd want our side to be getting ready for the inevitable war and part of that is accepting the fact that the cops aren't on our side and that the US military, while possibly split, probably isn't either

That's without even getting into what we all know about the military industrial complex and the various intelligence agencies but just the fucking supreme court should be proof enough that this country is unsalvageable

Taking hostile actions against powerful countries that could be useful allies in the coming civil war is the exact opposite of what I would want even if I were still a lib
