I would imagine that most people buying a BMW are buying it for the brand to show off how much disposable income they have. IIRC they're not great cars.
70s-90s bmws were exquisitely designed machines. very reliable, easy to work on, great performance, parts really not that much more expensive and they last longer anyway. i've owned 3 and worked on 3 more regularly. it's sad to see them take this turn. long live the inline 6

Truly this is a good barometer for the economic conditions of now. It is no longer sufficient profit to sell a thing. It must be joined with endless payments so the drip doesn't stop. But not because they know you have money. They know you don't have enough. So they will simply take a mafia cut at intervals. Giving you the means to truly own a thing would require paying people enough to burnish a savings account.
I'm so glad I don't live in a place where cars are a necessity and employers give you time to wash the sweat off after walking to work.
Do I at least get the NCR ranger armour with the new BMW heated seats subscription?
If I remembered correctly Tesla had a performance trim of a model that's literally the same as the standard trim but allows more power to the motor.
What's next? Power steering subscription? Air conditioning? Airbags?
Are they just going to build the same car and sell at different prices based on enabled features?
If this trend continues, flashing hacked car firmwares is going to be a thing.
Car ownership will be gone within fifteen years and all new cars manufactured will be subscription only.
