There are also like five hundred people with picrew avatars in the replies saying it's the best episode of the show because in the end of it the psychiatrist lady explains the toxic fans that the epic scientist guy is a bad person. Incredibly baffling.

I only watched like two or three seasons of Richard and Mortimer, it was ok. But I actually do think you could make a good case for pickle Rick being the best episode just cause of how great and useful "funniest shit I've ever seen" meme is

note : I don't remember anything about the episode or really much about the show at all

The show in general is fine, its just like a less clever more raunchy Futurama basically.

The episode where The Tick visits his own subconscious and consults the universe itself with just one question allowed to be asked... and the question... and the answer given...

                Legendary. :chefs-kiss:

                    I'll put it in spoilers.

                    spoiler

The Tick, after being told that he could only ask one question about the mysteries of the universe to a giant stone head that conspicuously looks like him, he starts with a greeting, "So, how're you doing?" The stone head rumbles, something rises from the sands around it... a giant thumbs up. The Tick gives a thumbs up back and looks very pleased. He then realizes he came with an actual relevant question but attempts to ask it cause the stone head's defense mechanisms to trigger, and smaller Tick-like beings start slapping him with fish.

Futurama is nearly infinitely quotable without the edgy/raunchy nature of what's supposed to be funny in Rick and Morty.

And the therapist is voiced by Susan Sarandon. Idk if that is supposed to mean anything, as in she's telling uncomfortable truths like when she didn't vote for Hillary, but she has good politics regardless.

It's still a better character than when she played a pedo (teacher that had seduced the writer that always wears a hat when he was a kid) in 30 rock.

The meme for one. For another is the episode the Rick Stan’s HATE the most because the therapist at the end completely dunks on him and anyone who has the kind of “I’m superior because I lack empathy” view

Rick and Morty started as an edgy comedy with fun sci-fi premises. Pretty solid first season, massive fandom of redditors. "Pickle Rick" is an episode where it sorta jumped the shark. Get this, a scientist turns himself into a pickle...

did kinda leave a bad taste in my mouth cause she basically said being catcalled is worse than severe mental illness that hulk was dealing with?

like both are bad i dont know why we gotta wax poetic. feels kinda like a weird wine mom show tbh. also, they have this middle aged white lawyer lady and her theme song for the show is rap? the lyrics dont fit at all either like lmao. i also feel like theyre cowards for not making her super beefy.

otherwise the show seems a little self aware that its silly, which is appreciated and makes me enjoy it more.

Rick and Morty in a vacuum is a decently funny show for the first season or two, which pokes fun at common tropes. Then it ran out of tropes to riff on and just gets tired and recycles ideas, the characters flanderize, etc.

It’s the surrounding context and audience that has soured it, Dan Harmon’s cheesetouch and the most recent seasons being chuddy and unfunny.

But Justin Roiland is a pathetic libertarian crypto-bro Musk dickrider.

:I-was-saying: I always felt that way, especially after his claim that his writers are so superfluous that he could easily code an algorithm to write each episode. :libertarian-approaching:

The ideology of the show, sometimes said in-show and backed by narrative convenience ("Sometimes, Mr. President, you have to just not give a fuck!"), took South Park style smug apathy and hostility toward caring about things to a whole new level, too. :galaxy-brain:

His "sexual violence against children is a hilarious punchline" takes from the pre-show pilot onward were also known to me from the start. :libertarian-alert:

The szechuan sauce incidents, and the arrogance and hubris of the toxic fandom, were just icing on the bazinga cake for me. :nyet:

I watched the first episode of she-hulk, I thought it was pretty good. CGI had some janky moments but was a lot better than moon knight. I am interested in the exploration of internet celebrity as a woman and a superhero, I think that's the direction it plans on going at least.

Yeah, I noticed his face looked stiff. It could be from a thanos model, I didn't consider that. I was thinking they had weta's model from endgame but didn't have the time or the money to get the facial mocap quite right. Or they just handed it to another studio who just didn't have to tools to make it look as good as weta.

A story also broke recently that the writers for this show wanted to do a multiple episode arc with the criminal trial of some Z-tier marvel villain but they bailed when they realized none of them could write an interesting trial scene

The message of the episode with the szechuan sauce in it was that szechuan sauce, particulary from the Mulan promotion at McDonald's, is a greater priority than the life or well-being of anyone else in the entire multiverse. The curtains are blue, Morty! buuurp they are fucking blue! :so-true:

Turns out it's an unpopular opinion on this site, but I liked it this way. Zany adventures of the supervillain grandpa and his awkward grandson was what made the show. All the attempts at 'deep' relationship drama and character study didn't land.

      • UlyssesT [he/him]
        ·

Too many of those zany adventures were child abuse (or sexual assault on children) presented as "funny." And when they weren't, the usual gag was Morty caring about something, but Rick (and the plot rails) condemning him for caring because apathy is cool and smart. Sure, there's exceptions, but that's the gist of "zany" on the episodes I was forced to watch because friends kept insisting that this one will change my mind.

Yeah, a lot of the ideology and its implications are embarrassing, so it's something you ignore to enjoy the show. Thing is, once the same showrunners (who I'm being told are horrible brainwormed people) try using the show to figure their shit out, it becomes even more embarrassing and too big of a part to ignore.

so it’s something you ignore to enjoy the show

There's some things that I can't personally ignore. It's a subjective thing, perhaps, but "haha child sex abuse is funny haha" (and the rest of Roiland's horrible anti-union pro-techbro ideology) makes it hard for me to really enjoy the rest.

            it becomes even more embarrassing

If anything would be entertaining to me after what I already saw of the show, it would be seeing the le edgy selfish :reddit-logo: science man getting called out and dunked on. I already checked out and am not coming back, but still.
