Sources said President Biden’s intended measure will include at least $10,000 in loan forgiveness for borrowers who make less than $125,000 annually, as well as another payment freeze for roughly four months.

At least the means testing isn't absurdly low like 90% of the means testing normally done on shit like this. That's of course assuming they'll add more on to the actual plan which they probably will.

Hey 10k would wipe out my student loans and actually be really helpful.

Oh wait, my loans didn't qualify for the pause so I guess they won't qualify for this either.

wait what, what do you mean it didn’t qualify? I’ve got fed loans and also went to a state college and I’ve had my loans deferred

            https://studentaid.gov/announcements-events/covid-19/payment-pause-zero-interest

Seems I've already paid my direct loans, and my FFEL/Perkins loans aren't held by the ED. Funny how nobody bothered to explain that to my 18-year old ass when I was figuring out how to pay for college.

Never take money from private lenders. As paradoxical and purposefully evil this system is, the fed ED is the only loan issuer you should be borrowing from.

I once borrowed $5k from a big private bank and holy shit paying just the interest rate on that was brutal

      roughly 800 conditions

      That seems optimistic.

Tomorrow I will announce that, as president, I'll establish a student loan debt forgiveness program provided that 800 conditions are met for individuals who started a business that operated for three years in disadvantaged communities...

Turning a big dial that says “performative populism” on it and constantly looking back at the audience for approval like a contestant on The Price Is Right

          Amateurs.

The real expert plays for the other team. :thicc-trump:

I’m not paying back my loans anyways and you shouldn’t either. We really should have a debt strike. Not just for college grads, but anyone also with medical debt, CC debt, etc.

Because this will be easy to get and won't involve multiple all-day visits to an understaffed, underfunded, and overbooked government office with a broken phone system, right? :padme1:

Ha you think they're going to have people handling this? You're gonna be submitting .jpegs of your past ten tax returns onto a website from 1999 running on servers from 1975.

You're optimistic that the servers will be running.

Where I am, entire government offices simply can't accept phone calls, at any time, no matter what business hours are posted on their quaint and dysfunctional websites, which tell you to call the number that doesn't work unless the FAQ is all you need. :biden-alert:

My first thought was that they employed a 1000 accountants to determine the amount to forgive that would most sway the electorate AND be quickly recouped by accruing interest as people struggle to pay the minimum monthly anyway.
