I even showed a video of the thing to my friend's mum (who is also uygher) and she literally laughed and said I go on the internet too much.

This is really amusing to me because in Chinese culture one very common cultural archetype of an auntie (read: any middle or late middle aged woman) is a woman with a razor sharp tongue, no filter, and who will home in on your tiniest insecurity and criticize you for it.

I wonder if they have the same thing in Uyghur culture.

You could also have traveled accross the Soviet Union in 1938 and never noticed any GULAG camp. Or visit Nazi Germany during the same year

Lol people really love this myth that the average German was totally ignorant of the holocaust.

Hmm there's soldier's rounding up and abducting all my Jewish neighbours, all their property and business have gone and are run by Germans now and every week there's a new explicit and implicit genocidal law passed... Anyway, probably nothing sinister going on.

You know you could ask anyone the same thing, take a decent long tour across many cities in the US and try not to notice the biggest prison population in the world.

Even if somehow you miss all the prisons etc it would still be impossible not to notice the massive police state and obvious racist "incidents" everywhere.

I’m so fucking jealous this dude not only got to go to Xinjiang but even got invited to the house of an Uyghur family and probably ate delicious food what the fuck. I hate this.

    It should’ve been me.

My sister-in-law is actually in Xinjiang right now. She showed me a picture of people publicly proposing at a park. Anyone who clams Xinjiang is worse than Gaza right now has no idea what they’re talking about and I can safely assume they have room temperature IQ.

Is this a popular narrative right now? There's a completely undetectable genocide definitely happening in Xinjiang?

It varies. They might only say there's a tacit cultural genocide, where somehow Islam is illegal in China or that the Uyghur language is banned. Or they might say it's a holocaust level genocide with forced sterilization and work camps.

It's completely absurd and defies reason. You can look at pictures of the genocide in Yemen and its effects. There's nothing similar to what's being proposed in Xinjiang. People who live in Xinjiang are on average much wealthier/secure than those in Yemen and Gaza, and yet there's apparently been no ill effects over the rest of China. No columns of refugees, no known mass graves, no known resistance organizations. Nothing. The accusation is that China is somehow perpetrating a genocide with none of the normal effects, no detectable decrease in population, and no destabilization.

Like I can't put into words how preposterous this is. China is supposedly carrying out a genocide in a place that has hundreds of thousands of times the area of Gaza, against 12 million people. And yet any minor glance at Gaza reveals they're suffering a genocide. China is supposedly carrying out a genocide far more massive than what Israel is doing? How is that possible for China to hide a genocide against 12 million when Israel can't hide a genocide against 590,000?

uighers were literally exempt from the one child policy, along with other ethnic minorities, but china is still somehow Doing a Genocide lol

There's also an implicit antisemitism. They don't give a shit about Gaza, but they do want to evoke the holocaust. The problem is they don't take the holocaust seriously either, or else they would notice that Europe is littered with mass graves and other genocide artifacts, and there's huge refugee descended diaspora populations. How is China hiding all of this so much better than the nazis?

probably fake. most serious propaganda doesn't try to claim that speaking Uyghur is illegal. for one, Chinese currency has Uyghur writing on it. classic concern trolling "I don't know what to do/think" tone. next, I assume this person would live in China, and I'd expect a person like that posting on r/china to be a far more invested and intelligent racist.

I've met a zionist, that, in one breath thinks all muslims are subuman, then when I mention how China beat reactionary terrorism without bombing entire populations, they hit back at me by saying it's because they put muslims in "concentration camps."

The fake concern is jarring, especially considering if it was in any other country, they'd be saying Uyghurs are all subhuman terrorist monsters.
