Rare good Reddit post.
it's adorable the people in there saying "go to NPR, go to social media, blow this up!"
most clueless white person thing to think ever. Pigs murder, what, 10,000 dogs a year on average? They're a dog killing factory. why would the bootlicking media give a single ounce of fuck?
yeah if I recall it's like 1 dog every hour in the US, quite frequently its their own police dogs too
A while ago I did see "1313-1" which is apparently the length you must go to in some subs w/ automated filters.
Also I stg if this turns into a struggle session about pitbulls I'm locking the thread.
Kill cops not dogs.
Please ban anyone who engages in the racist bullshit against pits. I hate those pieces of shit so much
Every time i see pitbull in Poland i know there is a fascist nearby. Literally, they are so integral part of the football hooligan and skinhead subcultures that i never seen anyone else have a pitbull.
Ok, but doesn’t that reinforce my point that it’s an irresponsible owner problem and not a genetically inherent aggression problem?
Absolutely, but also explains that people not liking them not automatically make them "dog phrenologists". Correlation does not make causation in this case, but also do not nullify correlation.
Don't worry I already wrote a whole fucking effort post about this. Just link this post when any dipshit tries to do race science on dogs. https://hexbear.net/comment/4820945
I like you, I really do. Most of the time anyway.
Please read this and do some self crit before posting racist ass shit perpetuating stereotypes about dogs used to advance white supremacist agendas. https://hexbear.net/post/166819
well at least the pibble nutters are outing themselves, and I'm learning who I should block
I think you're not only terribly overreacting, but nothing i my post warrant this, as i described the reality here. I even agreed to the meritum in the next post.
"Overreacting" bruh...
I explained in detail with multiple sources why the pitbull hysteria has roots in racist tropes and redlining please for fuck sake read the post and actually do some introspection on why you hold those assumptions.
This is an incredibly UScentric argument that disregards the poster specifying they're in Poland. In Europe pit fighting is historically associated with the lower class, and more recently with white supremacy, not people half a world away.
You're being very Americentric right now. Poland is not the US, and if pitbulls are popular there with fascists, who tend not to like black people, the breed obviously has a different history and cultural associations there.
That would work on me. If instead of poor poc like here in America. I mean I guess it has worked in me, I don't like German Shepards
Fr, fascists and people who think pits are violent genetically instead of having shitty people abuse them into it solidarity emoji.
Also proof eugenics don’t work. I have a Labrador retriever and mixed breed that has multiple types of terrier and some sort of Argentine mastiff knockoff. Looks like a stereotypical “pit”, but according to the test the shelter did is like 7 breeds mixed.
The retriever has never once chased a thrown object. It’s supposed to be in the name lol. The so called “dangerous fighting dog” loves nothing more than bringing back thrown objects all day if able.
Yes, eugenics don't work, but that doesn't mean it doesn't affect the breed in one way or another. If some dog breeds have terrible snouts or spines or brittle bones due to failed eugenics, why can't they be affected in other areas? Mutts (the dogs) are generally much healthier, yet they are used by racists to refer to minorities while they want to become like the dogs who can't breathe while gnawing on people mindlessly. And I'm not talking about pitbulls with the latter part, just that this is what they see as perfectionl.
How can you be racist against a dog breed? Like you mean "breedist" or something?
On top of what GinAndJuche said, there's multiple layers to it. Racists often use pitbulls as a way of introducing people who don't know any better to race-essentialist thinking. "This dog breed is inherently more dangerous and aggressive, they need to be put down for their own good," that kind of talking point. Then the rhetorical focus becomes more abstract and instead of being about dog breeds, it becomes about racial groups, so they make a parallel between supposedly dangerous dog breeds and undesirable minority groups.
Even if pitbulls are singled out due to social reasons, how does that invalidate its biology? People have bred dogs for a multitude of reasons, from fighting to farming to hunting. If bulldogs can hardly breathe due to centuries of inbreeding, why wouldn't some dogs be affected in other areas (physical strength or behavior) if humans kept pushing them in a certain direction? You can punt a chihuahua across the room and it'll run away, but most sane people wouldn't mess with dogs like german sheperds, pitbulls, mastiffs, etc. because they will kill you lol. As such, people generally don't use chihuahuas for anything that involves a prolonged fight or confrontation because they can't do anything but yap
These days shit like human eugenics is frowned upon. You can easily refute the conflations between dog breeding and human behavior - and even when there is a "parallel", you can easily point to all the monarchs who ended up like these dogs from their royal "selective breeding", though that's probably not productive because fascists want to euthanize disabled people even if they are the result of their "master race" eugenics projects.
why wouldn't some dogs be affected in other areas (physical strength or behavior)
size and strength yes. behavior no. "behavior only subtly differentiates breeds. Breed offers little predictive value for individuals, explaining just 9% of variation in behavior"
Read up on the history of anti pit bull propaganda (if you believe any of the dumbass nonsense like locking jaws you’ve already fallen for it). It’s intrinsically tied to an increase of POC ownership of the breed and racists using that as an opportunity to create a stigma around the breed.
If it makes you feel any better, I almost exclusively see white people defending pitbulls. They also get defensive on any mention of putting a leash on it, but it just seems to be a case of dog owners sucking shit as always.
People who don’t believe in leashes are a special kind of ignorant. “As always”? This just convinces me more that the ignorant don’t understand how dogs work.
There was a thread a couple years back about a study in behavior differences between dog breeds. The behaviors that actually reliably differ by breed are:
-
Retrieves objects
-
Howls
-
Avoids getting wet
-
Points
Which notably doesn't include whatever people keep saying about pitbulls.
we've got three dogs and two immediately jump in a body of water they see and the other goes on pee strike if it's so much as drizzling outside
he does love the snow tho bizzarely
I have a husky who hates water. Think it's a survival instinct where water means freezing to death. Also, double coat means they hold a ton of water
What's that formatting with
{|}
? First time I'm seeing it. Is there a name for it? Doesn't look like superscript.AFAIK it's a very recently implemented feature and as I understand it it's derived from a Japanese script style convention for annotating text with different characters (I think? I'm just inferring from context here).
In Japanese it's called furigana or yomigana, but it's also used for other ideographic/character based scripts where it's apparently called ルビ characters
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/globalization/fonts-layout/ruby
Also look up Stanford, horse breeding and eugenics. Horse and dog breeding are literally where the idea of human eugenics came from.
The book Palo Alto goes into detail about this.

There is a reason I prefered mixed breeds. Way less health problems, and also avoids participating in the industry.
People who set out for a certain breed of dog and buy from breeders suck. Adopt a rescue dog if you want one and you can care for one. My dog is a rescue and it took us a while to teach her what she can and can't do, but she's a perfectly innocent dog and has never hurt anyone.
RIP sweet girl
I wish it didn't take dogs being shot for redditors to see how disgustingly evil cops are. You'd think young disabled Black men getting shot would've put us in the same page, but much like the border camps ("Tell a middle aged white lady they're holding puppies in overcrowded cages without feeding them and she'll become a terrorist. Tell her it's hispanic children...") you can't count on anyone having empathy for PoC.
Meanwhile, what is it that actually makes it to the front page of that shithole copaganda site?
ShowI hate myself for saying this, but burning such a horrific way to go. I’d temporarily put my hate for cops aside if they saved my dog from that hell.
Oh definitely. I'd be eternally grateful to any person who saved my best friend from death, even if it weren't such an excruciating one as burning. Whatever cop saved that dog did an undeniably good thing and I didn't mean the comment as a condemnation of that one. Cops in general are actually capable of doing doing good, actually. It just doesn't change the fundamentally evil role they play in a capitalist society nor the fact that on the whole they're prone to doing despicable things as a result of that position... and the sociopathic feedback loop of that role attracting people who want to do despicable things in the first place.
I was just pointing out that what gets boosted and celebrated on reddit is the copaganda stories. It's the post linked by OP that everyone on reddit should be made aware of, and how common the practice is of cops murdering dogs. Instead, I found it really ironic that literally minutes after seeing this post, the thing I see on reddit's front page with tens of thousands more upvotes is yet another heroic cop story, pretty much the polar opposite of this one.
I got you, there’s just a contingent of shitheads who would dunk on dog saving. Why DiDnT He SaVe AnOthER AnImAl. As if they aren’t the animal closest to us, well maybe besides pests that rely on an urban environment. Those rely on us even more, arguably at least.
Most of the cops I encounter on a daily basis are either polite or neutral to everyone around town and on the train (unless the passenger is homeless). Capitalism aside, regardless of how nice or funny or relatable they are to me, it doesn't change the fact that if I was murdered by their colleague just for fun, they would choose to stay silent instead of turning their partner in. The rare instances when cops do have a conscious, they either commit suicide or die in a training accident a few months later.
There were 2 other similar copaganda posts in 24 hours. I'm sure they were boosted because of this post.
this fucker's either bootlicking or brand new
So a group of police conducted a pre-planned raid at your house without a warrant and shot your dog, due to something your minor brother is into?
This is ragebait, guaranteed. OP is a liar.
I wish I had time to drop on them a pile of articles about that exact fucking thing happening. Not that it would affect their "thinking," but I prefer when there's a cited refutation for passersby.
wow that sounds so out of place for Yankistani cops, usually they're beacons of virtue and honour

Please help my ignorance I know nothing about dogs and their breeds so I cant tell fact from fiction.
Just ignore the chuds and you’ll be fine. It’s a group of distinct breeds with varying characteristics that are linked together based on looks. A key characteristic of a lackwit is somebody who talks about them like a single breed
Its not about being correct or wrong Im worried about, I simply wouldn't voice an opinion, but there is an instinctive reflex when certain dogs walk past.
Here I explained all this in great detail with multiple academic sources here 2 years ago. https://hexbear.net/post/166819
Thank you I got around to reading it and realised I had already read it a couple months ago I think. Thanks for reminding me, I bookmarked it now to re-read in the hopes it sinks in because it's rather cerebral. Like my instinct still is "dog looking like pitbull = scaryy!"
I get antsy when I walk by any large dogs since I'm small and pretty weak. There's this one family in my neighborhood who has their tiny son walk their giant Malamute and whenever I walk by them I can't help but think, "If that dog decides to tear my throat out for some reason I am so incredibly fucked."
I'm not too enthused about dog ownership in general, even putting safety aside. It's exceedingly rare that I encounter dog owners who have given their dogs proper training and socialization as well as consistent physical and mental stimulation. I say this as someone that loves dogs but would never own one because I know I just don't have the mental bandwidth to give them the care and attention they deserve.
I'm that ignorant lol, malamute = fluffy why that's not scary at all!! I also lived with a couple who had this huge fucking sledding dogs/wolf crosses that were really lovely, if a bit lively so that would color my opinion as well.
So reactionaries have a flawed association between certain types of dogs and what they represent.
(X breed) are more badass, they're more violent, they're more masculine, they're more acceptable for a man to own, they're more loyal, etc. Unfounded associations, ofc.
Bulldogs (esp French bulldogs) were a lot more bourgeois than they are now. They were associated with bloodsports, yes, which earned them a certain reputation for being a masculine fightin' dog. But it was more likely due to them being smaller (but not too small) and cheaper to feed for said bloodsports while also having a shorter snout, compared to something like a borzoi which would have been detrimental to fighting.
Aforementioned reactionaries seek out those particular breeds associated with violence and machismo and whatever.
Said reactionaries are reactionaries, and are therefore bad at raising dogs.
Said dogs are neglected, not trained or actively trained to be aggressive
Said dogs get the blame for their behaviour if something bad happens and not the humans that created it. After all, they're already associated with violence!
Said breeds are strong enough to cause severe damage IF they act out, which gets reported.
Future reactionaries continue the trend.
It's a feedback loop. Within pop culture, the established "violent" breeds are depicted as violent. It's not a poodle that's attacking strangers in the street. """Smarter""" dog owners are turned away because the "violent" breeds are less safe! Which in turn boosts the desirability of those "violent" breeds to future reactionaries. A shitty dog owner's dog mauls someone? Don't self crit, blame it on the dog. Others see and are like "oh shit! That's what I need, a badass dog because I'm a badass". Gets said dog, ends up being a terrible owner. Ad infinitum.
a sad thought my partner and i had when we got our Belgian malnois:
at least there's a smaller chance cops would kill her because it would be like killing their own (yes i know they often kill their own)
lo and behold when they go out cops frequently want to pet her. at the very least it's sort of protection for my partner who otherwise looks very "woke" and the kind of person cops would fuck with
my partner who otherwise looks very "woke"
I hate to ask but what does this mean?
what chuds would consider "woke"
dyed hair, half shaved, commie tshirts, piercings, tats, etc etc etc
