Addictions can be cured, treated, or managed with help. But there's only one solution to becoming a fascist :cure-for-fascism:

The fascist thrives on the prospect of a glorious future victory. Take that away and they come around. Just ask the Last Emperor of China. He took the long road from Monarchist to Fascist to Reformed Socialist, but he did get there at the end.

Fascism is replete with Fair Weather Fans. You'll be amazed at how quickly a fascist can turn coat at the first sign of defeat.

I know that there's a real hatred and fear of addicts, and yet this result was still surprising to me.

The public thinks addicts are just dirty junkies living in an alleyway shooting up with used needles, the discourse around them has not changed at all since the 80's and the methods to treat addicts are still based around bunk 12 step programs and a lot of pseudoscience, it's really disheartening.

Very weird to work a liquor store after quitting drinking. I got to joke and entertain regulars but they were all alkies. I normally had the evening shift which was rough for some reasons but the day shift sucked. Super boring and the more desperate alcoholics came in there. Sure there's functioning alcoholics but at my store they were mainly college kids and hipsters. Over 30 was lesser functional alkies. It was a good deterrent from the bottle. Even if I got high a lot.

You're probably right. There are probably a lot of people who think of fascists as people who just say mean things on Twitter but don't actually do anything, and think that addiction = certain death.

I've met quite a few addicts and too many fascists. For the most part addicts are fine you know? Not met a fascist who was a good person though.

Up North we call that the Thorazine Shuffle

Psych facilities are sometimes just coed jails with better drugs too. Getting 2mg lorazepam jabs started in the ward and now I take Rx benzos daily and opiates on the side. Never been a full on junkie. Kratom and several other herbs can help but the fentanyl out there has created a dope arms race.

What exactly is this "neoliberal org" and what kinds of events are they likely to show up to? In any location with organized leftists, we should unironically not allow this to exist. Interpret that into action however you need to.

Hey maybe someone should make a post on this? Active leftists should be kept up to date on groups like this because they actually pose a threat to our on-the-ground organizing if we aren't prepared. There's a lot to be learned just from that guy's twitter and the org website, like the (very real) forms of organizing they do and how their group internally functions. I'd recommend comrades actually give those a read and share some of your own insights.

As a start, here are some things I noticed:

          • They participate in a lot of the same events progressives do (notably rallies for improved local infrastructure such as bike lanes, abolishing parking mandates etc). Events leftists would do well to attend and agitate.
          • Many of their promises seem attractive to working people. In their own words, they advocate for mass transit, more affordable healthcare, marginally better housing, and a focus on early childhood education to name a few. In practice of course, they have self-set limits on how far they're willing to take these promises. They define that as being "realistic", supposedly making their goals more achievable, which can definitely attract folks who can't see the modern Left accomplishing as much. That brings me to the next point.
          • Their continued success with the public relies heavily on their ability to directly engage with the establishment, on mutually good terms. Of course, this is one thing that's extremely difficult for us to match, but it's an advantage they hold which we need to accept and work around. Keep in mind that we're on opposite sides of a struggle, so we can always reach people they can't (i.e. anyone with anti-establishment views).

Just remember, in a period of greater political tension (i.e. a future with a strong, influential Left), orgs like this would quickly lose most of their relevance and most likely be absorbed into the greater establishment. Currently, the US Left is in the perfect state for them to make the argument that they're winning. But any sign of growth or greater coordination among us, and they'll first double down spectacularly, then struggle to keep up. Just like most of their "strategic advantages," it's practically built into their ideology.

To be fair if they become a fascist you can lull them into a series of pointless debates about the merits of liberal democracy while agreeing that capitalism is cool so you get the illusion that you're winning them over.

If they become a drug addict you must have patience, compassion, and that relationship may take every ounce of effort you have to maintain.

I'd rather just circlejerk over capitalism than care about stuff.

Some of us prefer Kratom. Never been addicted to dope but have a 15+yr relationship with opioids. Sometimes going on suboxone is like waving a white flag while replacing with Kratom is more liberating and dirt cheap, as subs also are. We get better and we fall back and live somewhat normal lives unless big on the needle and the fent.

It's those desperate cases on the street that freak people out.

There's nothing wrong with having a cig, coins, dollar or non-alcoholic drink for these guys.

I've never really enjoyed opioids but Kratom has helped me curb my drinking by like 95%, also does wonders for my energy levels and mollifying aches and pains.

Oh yeah I feel it's important to mention I do not drink. At this point in my life I have had more negatives from alcohol use than opiate use. 5yrs of only sporadic drinks (like 3-6 partial drinks in that time). I can't have it mixing with the benzos and opiates in my system either.

So much of treating opioids is just replacing the fent for subs it's not really all that helpful. I fully support kratom for people coming off them, even medical marijuana if that helps too. I've also seen studies that psychedelics are helpful in resetting the addiction centers of the brain.

I have had success in lowering my use with both Salvia and low doses of Ayahuasca home preps. Never a visionary dose but an insightful one.. I also do not drink. Iboga is the one touted as the best for hardcore addicts. I have a sub clinic two blocks from my house but I haven't given up yet. Those replacement meds (Suboxone and Methadone) get you hooked on something harder than Kratom.

The closest I've come to it was when my cat got put on it for his tummy issues and it fucked him right up, his eyes were saucer shaped and he was quiet as a mouse. I really feel for those struggling with opioids there's not a lot of good options, alcohol is bad too though as you can seize up if you withdrawal.

I've taken the Rxd bupe formulated for a cat before. She was over her injury and there were a lot of oral syringes left and I put it in OJ.

My last cat got Rxd gabapentin which I also take and didn't ever give him one. The vet only wanted it to sedate him, because even as an old cat he could fight the vet well.

I said fuck it and made them drug him. I didn't wanna do it. I gave him his steroid meds but didn't wanna give him psychoactive meds

When someone hands you a pill and says, "this won't get you high but you'll still go into withdrawal if you miss a dose," I can understand why you might be a little hesitant.

Not trying to make excuses for your person, of course! I just sympathize with the struggle. Addiction sucks.

Feel like there's a spectrum here, tho I doubt most people who answered that poll were thinking of it this way:

Would I rather someone I love be dipping their toes in fascist thought, but still able to be pulled back from the brink with gentle guidance (Like many on this site likely did in their younger, edgier days), or severely addicted to hard drugs? Probably the former.

On the flipside: Would I rather them be dealing with the beginnings of addiction, or be literally Hitler? Definitely the former.

Either way, comparing the 2 is dumb since being a fascist and being an addict are not mutually exclusive, and they're very different concepts anyway.

Its crazy that people think these are your options.

Become some kind of freakish bow tie wearing Confederate History dork who self-flagellates nightly for fear of losing his virginity to a non-TradWife.

Or collapse into an optiate fueled stupor to escape the pain of modern existence.
