I've daydreamed about an alt history where Germany was replaced entirely with a shallow sea, maybe 4 meters average depth, and with lots of archipelagos scattered through out, kind of like a north Europe Mediterranean.
This but an extremely shallow sea and you get Germans walking around in ankle-deep water at all times.
