Redistributing food so that the poor don't starve during a recurring famine is not genocide :monke-rage:

Letting the poor starve so that a handful of kulaks can gouge the dying poor IS genocide

Get ready to just shut up about this whole thing forever :shrug-outta-hecks:

If you try to broach this topic in company that isn't incredibly online communists you will be clocked as a genocidal Putler-loving lunatic from now until the end of time.

Time to renew your grillpill prescriptions

So same business as usual, exchanging "putler" with Stalin, of course.

It's different now that it's in the news and a PR tactic in the ongoing war instead of just people arguing on Reddit

Also if you live in somewhere like Germany you may get arrested for it soon

"The people opposing Nazi propaganda are the real Nazis" is quite a propaganda coup.

I just say my piece about it anyway, online or irl

U have no idea how many people I have told face to face that the Xinjiang "genocide" is false

I'm just like "if the West says it, that's my cue not to believe it"

You should have read the reddit thread, it was a shit show. Even the most tepid liberal shit like "It was just Stalin being bad at managing a crisis" were being vehemently rebuked for "It was literally the Holocaust, maybe even worse"

Westerners don't believe this stuff because they're poor misled people, brainwashed by the all powerful media. They believe this stuff because they're racists who believe they live in a superior civilization, and find it plausible when they hear that someone Over There murdered a kajillion people for no reason. It's only natural, they don't have superior Western Values Over There.

You can see this chauvinism shining like a beacon on every baby leftist in the West. At first, they're likely to believe that the West is straight-up morally superior to all of its enemies. If they manage to push past this stage (the vast majority don't), they're almost certainly going to get mired in a second stage: "Well sure the West has done a lot of terrible things, but that's just how it is everywhere." The chauvinism runs so deep that, being confronted with the abject horror that is the true face of their civilization, they would rather project that outward onto everyone than face the reality.

The moral outrage they feign when you push back on this stuff is not because it "sounds like Holocaust denial" or whatever, it's because questioning it is a direct assault on them and the moral superiority of Glorious Western Civilzation.

This is why Masses, Elites, and Rebels is a must-read.

Westerners want to believe that other places are worse off, exactly how Americans and Canadians perennially flatter themselves by attacking each others’ decaying health-care systems, or how a divorcee might fantasize that their ex-lover’s blooming love-life is secretly miserable. This kind of “crab mentality” is actually a sophisticated coping mechanism suitable for an environment in which no other course of action seems viable. Cognitive dissonance, the kind that eventually spurs one into becoming intolerant of the status quo and into action, is initially unpleasant and scary for everybody. In this way, we can begin to understand the benefit that “victims” of propaganda derive from carelessly “spreading awareness.” Their efforts feed an ambient propaganda haze of controversy and scandal and wariness that suffocates any painful optimism (or jealousy) and ensuing sense of duty one might otherwise feel from a casual glance at the amazing things happening elsewhere. People aren’t “falling” for atrocity propaganda; they’re eagerly seeking it out, like a soothing balm.

The holodomor was a naturally occurring famine that the soviet government did its best to rectify, rather than a deliberate genocide. The myth of the Holodomor is part of a broader "double genocide theory" to downplay the holocaust, blame the soviets for the escalation leading to WW2, frame Hitler as a liberator of Soviet Ukraine. As a myth it was started by OUN-B antisemitic nationalists and signal-boosted by Western reactionaries like Robert Conquest. After the the Soviet Union, the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (a revisionist anti-historical propaganda organ of the US government created with unanimous bipartisan consent) began escalating their signal-boosting of Holodomor. Now something that was considered a laughable exaggeration of a natural disaster in the 1950s is considered The Soviet Holocaust™ brought to you by reactionary think tanks and unironic nazis. People afraid of being equated to nazi holocaust deniers impulsively believe this stuff without a second thought. The Western bourgeoisie has turned the worst of all crimes, genocide, into whimsical accusation they fling at the feet of anyone they wish to overthrow. This minimizes the seriousness of genocide and will likely have a "boy who cried wolf" effect.

The only response I can think to take on this is to basically paint it as holocaust denial (double genocide theory) and erasure of the other soviets that suffered in the '30s famine (like Kazakhstan, which proportionally suffered the greatest losses, but is completely unheard of in relation to the famine whenever it comes up).

When I brought this up in another thread, somebody said that some Kazakh nationalists were starting to claim genocide too, but honestly even that would be an improvement to this stupid fucking bullshit that makes it all about Ukraine (closer to historically correct, less fuel for this narrative of Russia always having it out for poor little Ukraine, etc.). And it would at least fuck with liberals to have their assumed moral high-ground challenged.

says the guy whose country is built, and is being built from coast to coast, on the bones of First Nation, Métis and Inuit peoples. An actual genocidal regime with a Nazi sympathiser as Deputy Prime Minister.

Which used a printing press confiscated from Jews by Nazis. She denies that he was a Nazi and iirc has publicly expressed pride in her grandfather.

Also, I'm pretty sure proof of all of this was uncovered by Ukrainian-Canadian communists.
