I mean… the average Ukrainian’s standard of living and life expectancy plummeted, but if you wish to celebrate the event that plunged you into poverty, civil war, and then inter state war, be my guest.

Was just about to say, seems a bit premature to celebrate this now when it’s consequences are quite literally blowing up in your face.

Then again, you wouldn’t expect libs to understand cause and effect, let alone reactionary nationalists and fascists.

Extremely grim stuff. These English language propaganda campaigns serve a dual purpose both as rallying cries for western warhawks and regular, humiliating reminders to the ukrainian people that NATO destroyed what little democracy they had left in 2014 and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

They're fucking around. Within your lifetime, they're going to find out. Perhaps, just perhaps, they should not be plunging the world into perpetual war over and over for profit.

And I say that as a relatively optimistic communist organiser lol

Am I overly optimistic? Yeah probably.

Are they LONG overdue for facing meaningful consequences? Yeah definitely.

Where can I read more about this? I remember it faintly but I was too young to really understand back then.

I never even considered this angle of it. I just assumed this represented the average Ukrainian's views. Might be because I live in :amerikkka: where most people's political views align pretty closely with whatever the media says.

It represents the views of liberal minded upper and middle class people in urban areas as well as actual fascists but not necessarily all Ukrainians. A significant portion of Ukrainians see NATO and Russia as equally responsible for the war, many Ukrainian refugees have fled to Russia and Zelensky has banned political parties accounting for probably over 60% of the electorate.

NATO is a radically anti-democratic force.

Ukraine and Russia didn't really have a hard border prior to the Maidan coup. A lot of that "Russia is kidnapping Ukrainian children!" is probably just kids who lived in Ukrain being reunited with family that live in Russia. It's very inconvenient to the narrative for anyone to remember how much the two states were still inter-linked right up until Ukraine devolved in to FAFO.

:1984: Good news, citizen! Ukraine has won another epic victory! Food rations will be reduced by half in order to provide our brave young people on the front lines with more fuel to secure their inevitable victory.

It makes sense that they'd celebrate, the post-Soviet era has been great for Ukraine.
