One day Africa will be free to bloom into what it is meant to be.

Africa is increasingly coming into the focus of international politics and the West will certainly try to preserve its parasitic relationship to it, by any means.

Since Gaddafi's assassination, it's been getting much harder to facilitate that for numerous reasons. Economic development, political consciousness and rising multipolarity (China and Russia) complicates things, as it turns out.

I wish I shared your optimism, but the climate catastrophes that will intensify throughout this century will have a particularly devastating impact on Africa.

Okay, then they're all going to die and we should give up, fine, whatever.

They will but it doesn't meant that Africa will be completely inhabitable or extinct, as much as doomers seem to want that to be the case. Africa can still thrive through the hardships, as it's already been doing for centuries. The global north has shown that they can't handle the smallest inconveniences and will struggle to adapt the most with Climate Change. Ironic with how they'll have the least effects from it, but will likely become more traumatized as the treats no longer flow at the speed they're used to.

Sorry. Nothing against you. I'm just sick of the "International Community" thinking we'll never be able to prosper or become something when their populations can't even handle losing their phones for five minutes without hyperventilating.

global north could get walloped by climate change.

The equator gets gradually hotter, but people are already somewhat used to that
the north gets...much hotter (during the summer) and then doesn't even warm up enough to take advantage of the growing period (even 1 frost day in January is as bad as 5 frost days), and then meltwater pulse 3b stops the gulf stream and potentially ends everything

Daniel Immerwahr has a book called “how to hide an empire” that’s quite good.

Libs can't comprehend indirect control of more than two levels. To them it's like hoi4, either direct control or a puppet regime. The French shit is less obvious and gives a feeling of self governance while controlling the country using economic means. so libs think they're independent.

It's not foolishness or ignorance that blinds them to this, but white supremacy. They have no trouble seeing how Chinese investment in the region implies a level of influence. In fact they imagine a whole lot more than that, which simply isn't there. But in one thing they're not wrong - many African nations are seeking to redefine their position in an increasingly multi polar world. They're not blind to the shifting balance of power. They simply see the old white supremacist order as the natural state of things, and any liberatory project as a corruption of that.

And that's just the ones in Afrika. They still have as direct, classic style, colonies several islands in the Pacific and Caribbean.

it's just cheaper to outsource imperial enforcement out to locals like how by the end straight imperial occupation of India was costing more than revenue

Trust me when I say that most french people (well, most under the age of 30 and who dont serve in the army), fucking despise this, but the government no longer listens to us and uses executive orders to pass laws these days.

This has been the US since the 90s as well.
