Silly places like reddit and Netflix simulate or force outages to see how prepared they are for them.
Hexbear has learned to embrace the outages, roll with them.
Trees break in the wind, grass bends
Ironically this used to be incredibly common for reddit. I remember back when digg died it wasn't uncommon for reddit to go down every single day, sometimes multiple times per day. It was as unstable as Hexbear currently is, perhaps even more so.
:geordi-no: hyperoptimized reddit serverfarms that can't handle one measly outage
:geordi-yes: amazing hexbear server that has learned how to handle outages through the fires of daily experience
Maybe their money is tied up in SVB and they can't pay their server costs anymore?
you know how fucking wild it would be if it just... didn't come back up? I mean days, weeks, or even forever.
so much niche hobbyist knowledge...lost to time, like tears in rain :trump-kaneki:
but also, it'd be very funny :sicko-hexbear:
we'd have the push-shift database so we could actually rescue all the knowledge.
in that case i am fully shifting my position to "blood for the blood god"
I'm honestly still surprised the site outlived digg. I've been waiting for the current wave of social media to go the way of MySpace for, like, ten years now.
the went down for a moment of silence to honor the anniversary of the death of chapo.chat 😔

Oh we don't have that here...
Dang.
:inshallah-script:
edit: but also, where will I look up solutions to esoteric linux problems now!?
wait, people use Reddit for that?
There's an obvious answer to your question that begins with S
That place is pretty hostile to the newbie-level question I'm usually googling, though I have found a few things there too.
Honestly ChatGPT isn't a bad alternative to stack overflow for that kind of thing. I use it all the time when I have a question that isn't easily googled.
instructions unclear, hands are stained green, plz send upvotes
I'm a smoker so I am forced to go outside daily. Unless I'm having a bad day. Then fuckit indoor smoking.
Downdetector shows the site is down in the US specifically.
Baseless conspiracy A: Russian cyberattack connected to the downing of a US drone.
Baseless conspiracy B: DDOS attack sticking it to the nerds on pi day.
Principled and Peer Reviewed Conspiracy Theory: everyone is "I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE"-posting about PI day.
I copied and pasted all of the digits of pi into the box then clicked "post". Sorry everyone my b
C: us gov is performing maintenance to better integrate their bot network
It's fun to post in mainstream subs and monitor for botting activities
The Reddit servers were actually running on that drone.
Is it a coincidence that this is the same day that Reddit director of policy and likely ex-CIA asset Jessica Ashooh's episode of Jeopardy aired? :illuminati:
It’s because I saw a lib post in a leftist subreddit and was about to shit on it
The website can’t even play a 30 second video at a consistent resolution
