That's bullshit and a cursory look at the wikipedia page shows that people exposed for more than a few seconds come away with 2nd degree burns.
It's literally right there on the wiki.
Give these to cops and they will 100% burn the shit out of people with them while cackling to themselves maniacally. They have no concept of limited use or responsible control.
After shooting loads of people with microwaves is definitely going to be one of those things where 40 years later we hear about strange increases in cancer among certain sections of the population too. I don't trust their research claiming their war weapon is safe one bit.
Great, so someone basically invented a less than lethal flamethrower, what an amazing time to be alive. This sounds exactly like the stuff we should be spending money on, not silly stuff like preventing the climate apocalypse.
It's the stuff that will be used on the people fleeing the climate apocalypse
From that same wiki:
According to Wired, the ADS has been rejected for fielding in Iraq due to Pentagon fears that it would be regarded as an instrument of torture.
Deploying it against civilians is all good though. Cool cool cool.
How the fuck is that better? Waterboarding isn't drowning someone, just makes them FEEL like they are drowning. Fuck off with that torture apologia.
LRAD and now this.
They tested it during global south imperalism, time to bring it home
No, it's just a metal reflector. Throwing rocks or whatever would slowly reduce it's focus, and thus it's effectiveness, but the target to go for is the small emitter in front of it.
Edit: A better way to deal with this is big aluminum foil shields to reflect the rays.
Jokes on them. Every leftist would start quoting the fear is the mindkiller mantra from Dune.
Apparently this weapon is deployed as a large, vehicle mounted radar dish-looking thing. Now I'm just idly wondering what a brick launched from say, one of those water balloon slingshots would do to that very expensive piece of tech.
Doeas anyone else rember hearing rumors of this at the time? Or earlier in the dc protests?
Wait? Did someone in the government decided on this after they watched the first season of Silicon Valley? Because that’s the only explanation I can think of.
iirc this has been in development for awhile. There was something similar in the Left Behind books (I read them before my Come to Jesus-Doesn't Exist moment) and I looked it up back then and found people talking about the development of Directed Energy Weapons being primarily aimed at Missile Defense and Less-than-Lethal Crowd Control applications.
