ah yes, Mandarin... the language famously known for it's many pronouns... like tā and tā... and tā
They also only added feminine and masculine versions of tā because of gendered Western languages too lol
You should be more worried about your state being underwater in 25 years
must be another dimension of stupid when you are the world's tyrant but don't want to learn your subject's languages.
But nah the USSR are the one that is bad totalitarianism because they don't respect local customs or something
when you are the world's tyrant but don't want to learn your subject's languages.
Heh, heh, heh. You can't get anywhere in Canada's government without learning French and passing the exams.
I look forward to when they add Mandarin. It should already be mandatory in Vancouver.
Which is ironic because there are non French speaking French teachers in certain province of the prairies. Extra Ironic is the province I live in is the one with the highest rate of bilingualism in Canada
That happened to me in Mandarin once. I was getting my ebike fixed, some other customer started talking to me. I didn't understand what he said, and he started saying it slower and louder. The other customers in the shop saw what was happening and were like, hey he doesn't understand, buddy. I was sheepish, damn I live in the country, I should be able to speak the national language, right?
Oddly enough, I felt awesome after this encounter. Usually if they see your face they won't even try, or will just treat you like they were talking to a cow or something. The fact that I got treated like a peasant from the countryside was an amazing achievement. I felt, just for a moment, like one of them.
Today, shit, most young people speak English. Anyone who serves tourist destinations certainly will. It kind of sucks, honestly.
speaking English louder will get them better service at a foreign tourist destination
Interesting advise, i'll give it to some american going to saigon in 1968 on January 30th
oh no educating children to speak the language of the largest country on earth and being inclusive of others, shit any self-respecting civil society would do, the absolute horror.
I still don't get how they reconcile the democrats incredible racism and aggressive moves towards China during the Biden era with shit like this? Wait until they realize they'll have to hold hands and dance together with your average dem next door if they really want to go and do anything against China and then maybe they'll go back to being contrarians?
Also how exactly do they reconcile the fact fucking Russia(the supposed white trad male paradise I guess) is now China's #1 military ally anyway.
Criticizing dems for not being sufficiently thirsty for Chinese blood only encourages dems to bay for the blood of foreigners even louder.
Every republican accused democrats of defunding the police in 2020. The dems responded by increasing police funding in nearly every state and city.
Every republican accused Obama of opening the southern border, giving handouts to the black people, and weakening America by scaling back the wars. Naturally Obama proceeded to build migrant cages, halve black wealth by bailing out the banks that were taking their houses, and bomb like 7 more countries.
incredible racism and aggressive moves towards China during the Biden era
Incredible racism to conservatives is literally screaming racial slurs at someone while burning a cross on their lawn and trying to shoot them, anything subtler than that simply isn't "racism".
And 'aggressive moves'? Aggression to conservatives (and a lot of libs) vis a vis global politics is bombing a country's population centers
Woke human-readable languages: almost universally 6 different categories of pronouns with a variety of pronouns in each category
Based and redpilled computer languages: no concept of pronouns, variables only.
According to Ron DeSantis, we do it by simply not voting for Ron DeSantis
Ron Desantis CLAPS BACK against Demovrats with this epic bacon tweet
John James (R) already has that position taken. cw oil 4 freedom chud.
Bruh, you only have to learn "ta1"
Yes but the woke republicans increased the number of written forms of ta1 from four to five
That's explicitly plural, though. There's no singular wiggle room like there is in English.
Fun fact: even 'she' is a new pronoun in Mandarin. It used to not even exist. All people were 'he'. In fact, a lot of baby girls didn't even get names. They were just called 'sister #5' or something, and then they got married off at 15 and never saw their parents or brothers again.
tbf that was common in a lot of countries. in rome septimius just means 'the seventh one', lot of people were named that, there were also female ones like nona, secunda, octavia, etc.
germanic and slavic countries would often name kids by the day they were born on, which was typically named after a god. so a person born on Thursday would be named Thor or Thora and so on
generally it was a good practice to not get too attached to your kids back then, way too likely that theyd die
It was the girls who got numbered, since Chinese culture valued boys over girls
if you could provide what those names are id be interested in knowing, i kinda doubt that it would be only for girls
one of the classics of Chinese literature, Water Margin, opens on a character called Gao the Second because he's the second son of the Gao family (but people gave him the nickname "Gao Qiu" or Gao "the Ball" instead)
I always am a little sussed by anything that could give even an inch to xenophobia, thanks for proving that once again the Chinese are like everyone else
I mean Chinese society was shitty in similar ways every other society was shitty until 1949
yes, but there are many similarities, people like to only highlight certain negative aspects of other cultural groups to otherize them, and a lot of times those negative aspects are over exaggerated or outright false.
That numbering thing is not exclusively for girls
But a fucked up common name for girls was 招娣 Which literally means "seeking younger brother"
The implication is that they're hoping their next child was a boy
in this house, there are only two pronouns: my dad and my dad's son. just like it says in THE BIBLE.
Wǒ, nǐ, tā, tā, wǒmen, nǐmen suǒyǒu rén, tāmen, = i, you, he, she, we, you all, they
