as fucked up as it was (the Sino-Soviet split and its consequences, etc.) China was in Vietnam for under four weeks and it was a punitive engagement (Deng called it teaching them a lesson because China at the time thought Vietnam was pursuing regional hegemony) not an attempt to conquer the country. pointing at this as evidence for PLA weakness is pure western hubris
Give the Vietnamese credit; They did far, far better than anyone expected giving the massive disparity.
PLA hadn't seen combat in 25 years
It's not on a comparable scale but there was fighting in Tibet in '59, wasn't there?
The ones that show the US winning are either limited "wins" within a specific set of parameters (e.g. we stopped China from landing in Taiwan, but we no longer have a navy or airforce). Or assume some stupid future widget (there was one where the USAF just gave itself next Gen super fighters that don't exist).
even modern tech doesnt really seem to give as huge an edge as youd think. old soviet vehicles are being used regularly in ukraine and take out modern vehicles all the time
The American military in particular is in full blown wunderwaffen mode where they spend $200 million for a single aircraft under the assumption that it's completely undetectable on radar and can outfight a hundred peer aircraft before it gets shot down, because the American military is 95% grift-per-volume and at the whims of privatized defense contractors gaming the system to print money for their shareholders.
As with all militaries built around some amazing hyperweapon winning the war singlehandedly for them, they're in for a rude awakening when it once again turns out that what wins wars is reliable, dependable weapons that are easy to operate, maintain, and replace losses for.
Shock and awe when the greatest assault rifle in the world isn't the latest X-generation skunkworks homing bullet whatever but an AK-47 made out of old furniture
there was one where the USAF just gave itself next Gen super fighters that don't exist
They're going to run into issues when they can't refloat their fleets irl
The last time they went to war was with Vietnam which they lost.
You can also already see how the Ukraine war will be put entirely as Ukraine's own fault and incompetence, despite the western super weapons, despite the western training, despite the west literaly helping Ukraine plan their offensive.
They'll take absolutely none of the blame or responsibility for the inevitable massacre by Russia let alone the ongoing massive Ukrainian losses, "to the last Ukrainian" yadayada.
The inevitable crushing defeat against China? Pick one.
"Ah if only those stupid Taiwanese knew how to fly F-35s"
"If only those stupid Japanese actually built an army instead of spending half their time protesting against our brave men!"
"Oh well if only Australians knew how to fight something besides a kangoroo maybe"
"Oh well if only Australians knew how to fight something besides a kangoroo maybe"
"If only those stupid Japanese actually built an army
I'm against Japan having a military in general, but it's worth noting that they are forbidden from having one which is why they have the SDF. Also, there's nonzero overlap between those protesting US occupation and those who want Japan to have a real military, as the presence of one and absence of the other are closely connected.
The US Navy recently published information saying that China's ship building capacity is greater than the US's by over TWO HUNDRED TIMES.
If there is another war in the Pacific, it's the US who's playing the role of Imperial Japan.
As in they're going to lose, or they're going to do lots of genocide?
I know, the answer is both.
conversations at a roman forum a few months before the parthians hand the legions their Ls on a platter be like:
Two decades of nonstop war against insurgents armed with rifles and Toyota trucks really fucking shattered people's perception of what a war looks like.
Russia took some losses because it's going up against peer level equipment apparently means Russia is weak and pathetic for not conquering a whole nation with minimum losses.
Westoids must really think that if WW3 was to break out they'd roll their enemies and take just a handful of unfortunate, "lucky" for the enemy losses.
Cope, commies.
Unites States crushed Grenada's military. This would be just like that.
I saw a meme on IG regarding future US soldiers recording and peeing on the dead bodies of PLA soldiers. The comments are a bunch of military people cheering this on.
- War crimes.
- There isn't going to be a head on clash, its going to be another cold war where the US loses because its inability to control itself and its economy been torn apart by internal bandits.
- These guys have no idea who or what China is, they have to be the stupidest people on Earth and deserve to go back home and unalive themselves for what they did in Iraq/Afghanistan/Anywhere else.
Usually I'm more charitable to the TROOPS, not everyone is a psychopath and I believe a lot of people just sham their entire career, it's just a job. In this regard to me its no worse than working for Exxon or corporate Walmart. But not these guys, they only deserve the worst.
I almost want us to go to war to China just for the humiliating defeat they'd deal us, probably through economic sanctions more than anything else
Vietnam beat China with recent military accolades such as France (heavily backed by America) and then America itself
American will beat China with recent military accolades like ...
I do appreciate that they conveniently ignore that the PLA and the US army have fought before, and the former decidedly spanked the latter.
Edit: I will addendum my original comment by saying that I don't think there's much value in analyzing the Korean War to determine how a theoretical China-US war would go given both militaries have massively evolved in size and function since, but it's still funny these armchair generals acknowledge it if they're even aware in the first place.
I think there were two direct conflicts between PLA and US troops, both times the Americans were caught by surprise and were forced to retreat. It wasn't even close either time.
It scared MacArthur so much I believe the same day he started requesting more bombing runs, but there were fears some bombs would hit Manchuria and China would send even more troops. Truman got so scared he asked congress for permission to use atom bombs.
what do you mean my invincible carrier strike force is at the bottom of the ocean!? That's not fair! You're not allowed to act upon me, only I'm allowed to act upon others! You're supposed to be a passive victim and let me have my way!
All I'm reading out of this is Vietnam could win a war against both China and the US, allthough I'm unsure as to whether concurrently. I'll just go with yeah probably.
no because if america and china went to war we would all die in a nuclear blast
