You gotta hand it to him he's good at what he does. I wanted to slap his smug smile off his face as he was making his case that refusing to hold a vote for Gerrick Marland in 2016 was totally different from 2020 because the president was a Democrat. But he has a point, Republicans get elected to do a job for their continuance and they do it.

Citing an old Citations Needed news brief, whenever you hear "government shutdown" in the U.S., you should read it as "right-wing takeover". Not all functions of the government get shutdown. The ones that provide social services to people do, the ones that protect property, such as the police and military, do not.

Dems forcing a government shutdown was the one cars they kind of had a negotiating tactic for not confirming a judge before the next presidential term. Him out flanking them is almost perfectly predictable.

Dems: “we won’t shut down the government for petty politics” Republicans: “lol”

But McConnell alleged the Democrats' proposal "shamefully leaves out key relief and support" for farmers via Commodity Credit Corp. funding — though CNN reports the Trump administration views those funds as "an unaccountable political slush fund."

Doesn't he need the government up to push through a supreme court justice? Why would dems leave out key relief and support for farmers? And I would have totally assumed it was the repubs who wanted there to be less spending on relief. What the fuck is going on?

The Supreme Court thing is the one I'm most interested about. I honestly don't know why Mitch would give two fucks about relief for farmers if it gave them less time to push a justice through.

If they know they can force the Dems to squirm and give away more pork without lifting a finger, lest they be blamed for shutting down the government before a vote for a supreme court justice and a mail-in election, why not? I'll eat my own balls if Pelosi lets the budget lapse. Further, doesn't this just draw them back to the table to up the ante on other extraneous demands?

If it's not that, maybe they're just controlling the clock for some imminent tidal wave.

        Fuck this 5d shit

a republicans favorite thing to do is shut down the government and dab on the senate floor and a democrat's favorite thing to do is meekly ask them to be civil

Honestly Republicans behave exactly how you'd expect them to at all times, why do the Democrats and the media have to pretend to be shocked every time?

McConnell is literally helping Dems beat him because they are making it too easy, he's literally doing half the work for them and they will still fuck this up
