Transgender people are less accepted in Japan than in the US

And I guess this is why Chii-tan is strapped up like a Dragon Quest hero

The city mascots in Japan are the only type of advertising that should exist. Cute little creatures who tell you about their town and why you should visit.

Kind of weird that Japan is so unaccepting of transgender people when "otokonoko" and lesbian relationships are so common in the media.

Or maybe I'm doing a mistake by thinking anime gives an accurate presentation of japanese culture.

I mean I can go on Grindr and have 30 dms from middle aged Republicans in an hour. Half of them will call me crossdresser or femboy. Transphobia absolutely does not preclude exploitation or fetishization.

Yeah, trusting in the lens shown through casual media will result in, at minimum, a warped sense of reality when it comes to the subject.

The one time i visited Japan, the only things i knew about the country was dragon ball, metal gear, and discovery channel documentaries about building and trains. The discovery channel shows held up. The other two? Not so much

Reminds me of how my sister's idealized view of America from all the shitty reality shows clashed with the reality I've shown her. TV is one hell of a drug.

A friend of mine that lives in Cuba says that it's a huge problem. While life there isn't perfect, the constant bombardment of American idealization is projected at them. A big house, a big car, and a big plate. It's frustrating him, because while it is understandable to want a fairy tale life, trying to explain to people that it's not going to happen will only turn them away. People believe what they want to believe, and it's our job to convince them.

Is it any weirder than America being a deeply transphobic society as a whole even though LGBTQ support is so visibly promoted in our media?

I have been just reading this over and over again, it makes me feel way less dysphoric, like I'm almost normal.

If you block enough advertisers on Twitter eventually you get Chiitan! I love seeing Chiitan's posts in the break room.
