the X engineer responsible for the change ... stated that this design is "not the final design (going to make it look more badass)"

incidentally this engineer is a fascist weeb who complains about gay characters in TV shows and bragged about getting trans flags removed from a grocery store by leaving a negative google review

The ruling class caring about the most important thing as always.

People in 2024, barely able to afford rent: "Healthcare pls😞"

Wealthy elites: "Ummmm I changed an emoji, isn't that badass?🤓"

Personally I liked the alien laser pistol that Microsoft had the best, bring that one back.

I don't have strong feelings either way, the water pistol is a bit silly but this particular decision was made as an anti-woke measure by fascist tech bros who just wanna point the gun emoji at the pride flag again

curiously this chud says the emoji was "returned back into its rightful form: an m1911" when it never was an M1911 in the first place, it used to be a revolver

Yeah, making it a water gun was some over sensitive shit. And it’s just completely out of spec as Unicode intends for it to be a hand gun.

Apple just decided they didn’t like that emoji and substituted their own. Apparently they later pressured Unicode not to add a rifle emoji.

I remember when every company changed the emotes to the water gun. Everyone made fun of them.

Guns should be treated the same way cigarettes are. If you want to reduce their use, you must make them uncool. Branding, packaging and the like should all be disallowed. Advertising should be disallowed. They shouldn't be in the emojis. Their form should also be limited so that "tacticool" shit is effectively disallowed and guns get treated more like a tool.

Essentially do the same shit we did to smoking.

Did that work tho? Like I don't smoke but it's still pretty cool. I feel like what will really end smoking is vapes and other better technology.

2001 and 2002 were the years that the EU brought in bans on smoking advertisements, the requirement for cigarette packets to be plain packaging, and the requirement for large visible health warnings on the packets.

This is just one country but this sudden drop in usage played out identically in all EU countries that were required to carry out the changes. This initially started with plain white packaging but these days they look like this:

Do not underestimate the effects of branding and brand emotions. Marketers are are obsessed with branding for a reason.

From a cursory zoom, I think the receiver is milled instead of stamped, so probably 47 over M or it's some Chinese Type-Whatever produced in between the AK-47 and AKM, but I could definitely be wrong

I'm not sure if I can tell receiver details at that resolution, but a better giveaway is the stock - the 47 has its stock attached at an angle to the receiver (and the receiver itself has an angled rear end), with a metal bit inbetween, while the AKM has a nice right angle

(this might also be the exact image used for the emoji)

there's also a difference in the pistol grips (a similar situation with being attached at an angle and there being an extra connecting metal bit), but that's more difficult to see in a small image

I didn't know that about the stock thing though, thank you.
