The reason why there are good* and cool* trans-representin' novels, webcomics, even indie games, is because there's barely a barrier to making stuff in those formats. Certainly not as much as a film, where you need a whole crew and post production and shit.

So can there be good trans movies?

Don't say TV Glow, I know ok. Jane Schoenbrun is one person smh.

Whrn I say game dev, I'm not thinkin bout expensive games, I'm thinkin anything from goofy twine games to Heaven Will Be Mine to Fallow or An Outcry. RPGMaker, Unity, free SDKs for old consoles, lots of easy-access tools and such. And then you just get Ada Rook to make ur music, ez!

I think that's true about video essays and films, although the amount of video-essay-level productions that are actual narratives is extremely small. You can make films on the cheap and easy, it's been possible since Super 8 camcorders, but nobody seems to Idk.

That nature doc sounds rad. But yeah, with digital production and cheap drawing tablets you would think there'd be more narrative animation knocking around? Alas the internet seems not to have helped.

Yeah it's like, a game does oft comprise all the elements of film and more, but the programming is eased by the software frontends I mention, and you can do pixel art, have text box cutscenes, a game can be as simplistic or complex as you make it. Plus you can program music in trackers or midi or chiptune stuff, one-person game projects are not unheard of because so much technical knowledge abounds.

That kind auteur myth is pretty cringe honestly, in film and television it definitely does not exist. Most games are team projects too, like Celeste does not claim a sole creator, it is teamwork. That shit is bad. The "written by" or "directed by" should be better, but a lot of people just attribute sole authorship to a writer or director anyway, lol. David Lynch is a hack =)

I love super autistic, same and it's rad, thank you for the soapbox ramble tbh.

yea The Ides of March 2012, I remember... I wish Youtube had more animation stuff. The channel Vewn has some killer little narrative animations if you aren't aware, which all fuck.

Lol, always struck me as really silly. Double bonus points if the director secretly had a critical partnership with like, the cinematographer or someone, and as soon as that person was removed the director was revealed to be a clown. Teamwork!!!

No prob, aside from the fact I base-level really appreciate infodumps, this subject is neat and interesting, great thread. I only don't respond when my brain is melted, I love big paragraphs tho.

Np, one of the only animators I've seen still going, very Gender kinda animations.

agni-pain surely nobody would get triple bonus points r-right???

I think it's that fundamentally it's hard to have multiple characters without several people. Both in terms of filming and audience comprehension. Not to say you couldn't have one person play everyone, I love Kind Hearts and Coronets after all, but it's a lot harder to make a narrative where that works. Not to mention camera work if you want any movement at all. Film making is just a kind of fundamentally collaborative artform, even moreso than how other art is.

I guess yeah, you have to get people to act, and doing the thing where you get your friends involved can be kinda nerdy Idk. We need leftist trans film collectives, like the feminist 70s film collectives.

Uh actually I was bluffing, I don't have trans webcomics lmao. They do not make em near as I can tell. Read some manga once which were okay at least...

Also though listen to every Black Dresses and Ada Rook album, you gotta, become the stereotypical loud screamy music transfemme!

You can read Until I Become Me by Satou Hatsuki, that's a fun one, I liked it. "Gender bender" that is sincerely not trash!!!

As a weird wildcard rec, it's horrible and strange but The Pervert by Remy Boydell. Check content warnings on Storygraph but truly I think it is Neat. The author also did 920LONDON if you dig it.

sicko-power Become a Rook simp do it!!!!!!! Lfg!!!//

Thank you for the recommendations! I'll try and start one today.

Okay so I try not to envy specific people but Ada Rook might have to be an exception cheems

                    I mean.......

                    thonk

yeag.... the most on the nose comparison is that it's furry Little Fish, but it does more than passingly resemble Fritz in spirit, just with the fucked up Ralph Bakshi racist shit swapped for weird sad trans feels.

                    Huh...

Was the closest comparison of a "currrent tribulations and perspectives" kind of story that has furries

Kinda cool subgenre as long as Bakshi isn't involved.........
