      Lmao 🤣

They have a good point about the pig poop balls, but landlords = bad as a reason for defederating? That's bullshit. Imagine defending feudal property relations in the year 2023

Canada's entire economy is just landlords buying up multiple properties and extracting rent from them because no one can afford a mortgage. So it makes sense.

They don't have a good point about the ppb for not adding to discussion. That user only used it replying to a) naked bigotry, and b) people whining about federating with us

Why should we bother to federate with sh.itjust.works? They would defederate us and we would have to defederate to their defederation . There's no end to that. It would be quite enough for us to announce that sh.itjust.works is a traitor to the working class, and everyone will understand everything. lenin-walenin

Lemmygrad has been the only instance to give us a warm welcome. We should definitely not federate with an instance with a anti-grad comm.

gotta agree, lemmygrad users have been great stalin-heart the idea of slighting them by making friendly with people who don't like their (excellent) politics doesn't sit right

Lemmygrad is federated with them too though, and the meanwhileongrad comm is really just one guy who loves to talk about "tankies". If anything it would be a material source for the dunk tank.

Actually we're not, lemmygrad doesn't de federate from any real instance but shit just works did de federate from us, it probably only shows on their instance list and not ours though. Which makes that meanwhile on grad community doubly funny, the creator specifically chose to make it on a de federated instance so we can't talk to him, talk about a coward.

OK but 1. I don't think we need more material for the dunk tank, it's a fucking cornucopia right now and 2. this suggests a lot about their admins, because presumably at least some comrades must have protested and reported over there and were ignored

The example banner FOUCAULT provided in the thread here is both racist and unacceptable; and it wasn't just posted, it was approved by mods

Lemmygrad has been the only instance to give us a warm welcome

OK but there are all sorts of people from many different instances that expressed support and gladness at federation with hexbear

an instance with a anti-grad comm.

Ah, never mind then. No as well IMO. Especially after seeing a few content examples in the present thread.

It's a pretty tiny comm and almost every single post is from just one person, I don't think it's a big deal.

We probably should not federate with them, but the chaos that will insue when their neo Nazi non credible defence community hits the front page and hexbears swarm it just might be worth it.

i didn't want to spread our posting power too thin but the existence of that ncd comm is making me think twice

When they drop their inevitable "should we defederate from this instance that keeps embarrassing us?" post and it blows up, that Nazi shit will make a lot of people ask what their instance is doing federating with them and how we're supposed to be the boogeyman in all this

Look, as admins, you have a responsibility to hook us up to every cesspit of gurning reactionaries that will allow it. I can only argue about how tiresome Hegel is so many times before I just want to clown on someone who doesn't share 90% of my vocabulary.

I appreciate the comraderie between hexbear and lemmygrad in the comments, and I've debated making this comment because I don't want to influence the decision (which seems to be a resounding no at this time) as even though I've had this account on Hexbear for almost a year now, my main instance remains lemmygrad where I'm an admin so I don't want to tell you how you should federate or not.

But since the main arguments against were because of their MeanwhileOnGrad community, Hexbearers should probably know that on Lemmygrad, we joke about them and don't really care about that community. Personally I would tell you to federate with that instance (and the whole fediverse) so we can bring our arguments out there. Like I said in another comment, Lemmygrad doesn't defederate from any (real) instance and over there we wish libs would be brave enough to federate with us, we can't wait to get in there. Right now they've purposely blocked off communist content on that instance, they probably don't know Hexbear exists, imagine what that would lead to. But like I also said, this is your instance and I also understand the people that want a safe space and regret having to see libs.

I appreciate your input. For me it's not about the meanwhile on the grad community, that's obviously run by one deranged racist individual. For me what's most concerning is the non credible defence community on shit just works, which straight up posts neo Nazi symbols to "support Ukraine". And gets nearly 200 upvotes for that.

Oh we have so many hundreds and hundreds of pages of information and analysis on the spread of neo-Nazis and Banderites in Ukraine. Like, valid concern, it would result in a battle, but we have ammo stockpiled for that battle like you wouldn't believe.

Just perusing through it at a glance, it mostly looks like shitposts involving memes of Putin or pictures of NATO/US military vehicles. Annoying and cringe, but hardly a reason not to federate (I say this as primarily as a lemm.ee user).

Hexbear has been an island for almost 3 years now, we've become a very positive space for a lot of users that come here to just discuss and joke with people who also read leftist theory or have experience in activism. It's also a very trans positive space.

So we have the old guard of CTH posters that live for the dunk mixed with a lot of other users that might not have been a part of that who are just worried about this safe space being militarized.

These groups aren't mutually exclusive though and some of the most militant posters are also the ones who participate heavily in increasing the positivity of this instance.

I think this past week has changed a lot of minds in favor of going more on the offensive though, we've been building essentially an army for 3 years now and we're gonna use it to wipe the fash off the fediverse.

It was originally associated with the WWII nationalist Banderite movement, which has some dubious history

Let's take a look at one of those "dubious" bits of history, shall we?

            CW: Participation in genocide

The vast majority of pogroms carried out by the Banderites occurred in Eastern Galicia and Volhynia, but also in Bukovina.[3]: 237  The most deadly of them was perpetrated in the city of Lviv by the people's militia formed by OUN at the moment of the German arrival in the Soviet-occupied eastern Poland.[16] There were two Lviv pogroms, carried out in a one-month span, both lasting for several days; the first one from 30 June to 2 July 1941, and the second one from 25 to 29 July 1941.[17] The first pogrom took the lives of at least 4,000 Jews.

"Sure. I’m sure Trinidad and Tobago, and Albania, are definitely Nazis. And those anarchists with their black and red flags, they’re definitely Nazis too, right?"

        Person 2:

"This is like defending the use of a Swastika because it is also a Hindu symbol. Everyone knows this isnt about Trinidad, Tobago, Albania or Ancoms."

tbf many other instances are more redditlike in that anyone can create a comm and make the banner image whatever they like. the admins haven't taken it down, yes, they are probably libs, but it doesn't mean they are any worse than lemm.ee, etc.

I was in favor of it basically because we are far more powerful posters and I'm not concerned about one shitty community. I'm glad it was brought to the users though because the hordes clearly disagree.

I don't think that's really fair to say, mods and admins haven't shown any tendencies like that. If we spread commie posting onto a new Reddit alternative platform with more posters than ever before, is that a bad thing? Just use local if you don't like the posts.

I think there's always been a part of the community here that wants to do outreach and convince more people, and part that has always preferred to keep the tight community we have here between each other, with a steady trickle of new members; I've oscillated myself between both in the past

If there was an aim here, it was towards that outreach (that and hopes of revitalizing the discourse/community I imagine), not "inflicting hexbear upon lemmy" IMO; the few dunk threads (all in all there weren't that many) have just been a side-effect.

#1 can be rectified with a userscript (or mobile app that supports blocking whole instances)

This past couple weeks has really shown that we aren't a paper tiger when it comes to posting lol, I was afraid we lost our touch. Former Chapo Posters stepping out of Hexbear like it's the hyperbolic time chamber in Dragonball and challenging Dril to a duel.
