If you can use old.reddit.com you can get around having to log in, but frankly it's not worth the hassle.

Yeah it still sucks. In fact, I would say it's worse. I believe these days as intended is using the Reddit App, which I will never install.

It seems like that because that was exactly what happened. They killed the 3rd party apps then released their own shitty app

Their shitty app was out for a while before they killed the 3rd party apps, but nobody used it because it was so shitty.

half that and half it being a super waste of time and money to make their web UI work well on small screens on mobile browsers which already don't work very well in general (and the web doesn't in general either).

Want to go to a "controversial" sub that doesn't do front page bootlicking for billionaires and/or "influencer" sociopaths? Too bad, you need to log in. I have nothing left to log in with because fuck that.

Every porn sub is behind the same wall, which is whatever, I don’t use reddit for porn. BUT this also includes any post that talks about sex in any detail. I could not count the number of times I’ve tried looking for sex toy reviews, only to be blocked by reddit-logos asinine nsfw policy.

They also do it for subs that are "controversial" like the sub for the Majority Report. Which is controversial if you aren't a raging zionist toady.

Ah but you didn’t mention the ads. The ads fucking load in the comment sections now, in between comments, not just at the top.

Obviously reddit was always shit shrug-outta-hecks but each update is engineered to become even more hostile to its userbase. Don’t even get me started on botting.

The only reason I briefly had a reddit-logo account was to read CTH after it got quarantined. Deleted it immediately after the sub was banned.

If you want to circumvent the login requirement you can do it in desktop mode which then makes the interface even shittier because now it doesn't fit your screen and everything auto plays.

Awesome! Great website! Industry titan! screm3

The braintrust at reddit has done its utmost to kill itself what with five billion UI iterations but they’re somehow still alive. It’s truly remarkable

It's like they are the only bar in a small town. It's a pit of hell but it's the only place to buy a drink. So people tolerate the piss smell, the mean staff, and the boorish clientele.

But, like, the bar owners are literally spilling vomit on the hardwood floors before open, but they keep coming

It only exists because Google sucks so bad that it has effectively become a way to search Reddit, as Reddit itself has the worst search features. Two tech companies that shot their own foot leaning on each other for support

I can only tolerate reddit using libredirect to always use libreddit. Recently libreddit has frebuently been breaking on pages I find in online search results.

It's really quite something that these alternative front-ends (nitter, redlib and teddit before it, et al.) offer a vastly superior UX to the actual official software.

I still use third party apps so it's tolerable but holy shit the official app is soon bad. They should just buy Apollo for ios and sync for android and make them official apps.

Before they had an app they bought a perfectly good third party one (Alien Blue) then proceeded to throw it away and vomit out the current app.

Lol every time I log in, its default sort is "best" but the scores on my front page are like:

    0
    100
    0
    200
    -1
    0
    50

All of the 0s are threads that have been up for hours, have several dozen comments, and are some of the stupidest threads you have ever read.

    Good website.

If you still want to use Reddit (yeah it sucks but there's a little bit of value still), look up how to patch your preferred 3rd party application with Revanced (https://revanced.app/). They also provide tech support in their Discord if you need help (yeah yeah fuck discord). I don't remember how to do it but it's been working almost perfectly since last summer, except for one hairy time around October when reddit broke something and the patchers had to issue a new patch.

I use the latest RIF Golden Platinum (v5.6 something?) which you can find on APK sites. It has no ads and I generally think it's got the best UI out of all the reddit mobile applications. My reddit experience with it gets to be very focused and text-heavy -- no shitty awards, no image macros, no bloated UI with tons of empty space, no clutter and bloat.

Notes: NEVER install something that claims it will just download a patched app for you -- it could be innocuous, but this is also a known way to spread malware. You need to install the unpatched app, then patch it with Revanced.

NEVER install a patched app that someone says they made to share -- it could be innocuous, but this is also how people spread malware.

on iphone safari at least, you can just set the entire site to always to load in desktop mode to sidestep the login requirement and just get a prompt to confirm you’re 18+. you do still get an annoying “login with google” prompt but that at least has an X in the corner to make it go away.

yeah i occasionally browse it logged in on firefox mobile with ublock origin.

and it's fucking terrible. every other tap it bothers me to download the app. anytime you leave a thread it re randomizes my personal front page. reading comments is impossible below like 2 layers
