seriously what the fuck i've been to every hardware store within 15 miles searching for this rumored plate. What I really don't understand is why every coaxial wallplate I've come across is 1-gang which would be fucking useless for my purposes.
i spent 30 minutes today showing the poor Lowes employee who dared to walk up to me while I was investigating their aisle of Leviton the wallplate in my possession, the part of the wall I need to cover, and the coaxial cable that needs to be run through it. Sagaciously, this kinda cute man went "why don't you just do the 'build your own wallplate' and make one that size" and I was like 'wow okay what aisle is that' before walking over and realizing the goddamn build your own wallplates didn't even have a coaxial option.
i still don't fucking understand why the nomenclature is 'gang' for number of outlets/switches on a plate and I STILL DON'T HAVE A FUCKING WALLPLATE AHHHHHHHH
is my only option really about to be to just drill a hole into this wallplate or get a single outlet 2-gang wallplate and just have the coaxial cable running through the empty space like a straw through a donut....no...surely not....right??
i'm sorry you're going through this but i gotta say the post title sounds like the setup to a really overly specific internet hardware technician joke
Huh the store should've been able to figure it out... It's not that unusual either, just more superb outcomes under capitalism.

WHAT THE FUCK lol i'm having vietnam war flashbacks to talking to the Lowes employee about it & showing him the photos LITERALLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF THOSE DJHSJFGHRDFGJBDESJTFGHwgahjfdERGN
love that everyone in a store is given no product training and has so little pay and job security that anyone that does learn anything is gone within a few years anyway.
I worked in retail for a while and had the customer who approached me teach me how to use the key copying machine because nobody else was around. Cool guy. That's how you know your training sucks though.
It's kind weird to have a 2 gang receptacle just for a coax cable, isn't it? It's not like an electrical box where you might need space for wiring. I'm not surprised they don't stock that on the truck. I guess they should have some of those build kits, though.
used to be two phone lines or phone/coax originally
most likely
Wait, so did a Spectrum tech go and install that for you? And if so wouldn't they have wallplates? Like I would think they'd have wallplates.
doesn't surprise me the tech didn't have them in larger sizes (2 full outlets wide by the looks of it)
Like I would think they'd have wallplates.
you and me both but he was went "nope brother all I have is the standard one" which he DID give me in its packaging like as a consolation prize but was like "Home Depot will have them"
Easiest solution? Just drill a hole in the plate and run it through. Drill slowly, it's easy to break them. I did this for speaker wire exits for speakers in my house. Since it's a 2 gang plate, you probably won't find a single connection pre designed. The best option pre-made I saw was this... RiteAV Mesh Brush Coax Cable TV Wall Plate Dual 2 Gang Decorative White https://a.co/d/0E4pjsB
yeah with the right size bit I would drill the blank 2 gang plate
yeah I've done some searching on Amazon and found one that'd probably work but its $20 which is insane for a piece of plastic.
Lol for $20 you may as well put that money in an index fund and come back in 30 years, buy a 3D printer with it, and print the wallplate yourself.
