I had a reddit account that I barely posted with because people can sometimes be shitty. I've never, ever played online games while not muted cause people are really shitty. On any Tumblr or Facebook or Twitter post that gets enough traction, by simple law of large numbers there are gonna be assholes.
So I generally keep to myself and don't have a big online presence. I mostly just use my accounts to ask hobby questions or something. So I took a chance and started posting and commenting and being active here and I'm just so pleasantly surprised that in general people give the benefit of the doubt and support each other. It's really nice and I feel pretty good about coming here every day and actually interacting and not just reading.
I see the irony of posting this on impromptu trans struggle session day and I'm not saying absolutey no one is mean ever, but I've had this thought for a while and I thought I'd add something positive to the mix today.
Thanks for generally being really cool, y'all
The struggle sesh will pass, and we’ll go back to having multiple daily bait struggle threads. I’m glad this site is here and I’m glad you’re here. People are generally cool, and I think we get heated about a few things because we care about the community so much, not in spite of it being a nice and supportive community.
Seems to be about how much to be bothered by newbies not selecting pronouns.
Before this site, the last time I interacted with online strangers was probably 2009. Thanks for not being huge weirdos, everyone!
2009 was a good time. If years came with a loop button, I'd definitely have a few more go-rounds playing Red Faction: Guerilla and listening to Jonathan Coulton.
This. The crowd here is genuinely cool, always up for discussion, and multiple times ends disagreements by reminding each other of love and left unity.
Best group I've ever been a part of, thanks for the good vibes.
agree. Everyone here is super nice and way supportive. Like the most supportive community I've been in and I'm surprised we could even generate a struggle session as hot as that one.
Ive always gotten "early 2000s forum" vibes from this community, which is something I thought the internet had lost. People don't really have discussions about shit anymore, they just want updoots or whatever.
Every small kindness to your comrades helps foster a strong community and makes things suck that much less.
i thought about making nearly this exact same post. people here are generally pretty nice. i've had a couple abrasive responses but it's still tens times friendlier than reddit or anything else
thanks comrades
I posted something yesterday I knew would be kinda against the grain. I got downvoted for it but people responded thoughtfully with valid arguments that made good points. I still believe what I believe but everyone was respectful, and I'm glad to be in a community that doesn't 100% believe in what I do, while still being friendly when there are disagreements.
