Thats bad
I doubt theyre doing it on purpose, but I'm sure they don't mind
Absolutely. Just look at how republicans have worded their response to other republicans getting it (their fault) or when Trump says "nobody important actually got it" (meaning it was primarily affecting black and brown folks).
I've been also thinking about this. Would make perfect sense actually. Capitalism needs a certain rate of unemployment to drive down wages but with too many unemployed there arises a risk of riots and eventually even revolt. Seeing as how we're well on our way to mass automation of menial and analysis desk jobs unemployment will inevitably rise. I'm sure some concerned persons have made their calculations regarding both the sweet spot of the rate of unemployment and the projected layoffs and this could have called them into action. Thus they kill 3 birds with one stone: getting rid of the excess unemployed, getting rid of the elderly to right back the demographic pyramid on which pensions are built and getting rid of those with health conditions - relieving the health insurance industry. A significant 4th "bird" is somewhat scaling back the population to get more in line with the carrying capacity of the earth. We know that a well off person in the West produces at least 100 times more emissions than a regular person in the developing world, and for western billionaires this number skews even higher, but since the lives of the (western) bourgeoisie are sacrosanct something else needs to give and this something else are the lives of the poors. China in this scenario would be used as a diversion tactic, so the western populace doesn't get too many conspiratorial ideas about our bourgeoisie.
It's just the consequence of a shit-tier for-profit health care system colliding with a global pandemic.
Like, if you see the consequences of contracting the virus for the upper class - Trump and Chris Christie got it, a number of Trump staffers got it, several Senators including Mike Lee and Thom Tillis got it and they've all come through - then it's clear that this is an inconvenience in their eyes rather than a serious health risk.
It isn't explicitly eugenic, but then it doesn't have to be. It's the same kind of casual neglect that kills anyone who can't afford top flight medical care.
Yet we've still got about half of people arguing deaths are overcounted
One in a thousand americans dead... and the elites will live forever
I may need to change my September 2021 prediction from 500,000 to 600,000
My dumb ass thought two months ago that losing more people to Covid than in WW2 in less than half the time would be a major story but now I'm thinking that it'll pass by completely unmentioned.
Its been reduced to a personal issue now, so we'll be getting mask reminders once a month and thats it
when we hit 240 and are even with ww2 we should throw a party.
Also, from my time working around hospitals we have seen a lot of patients who get sick, then have a heart attack because their body overworked trying to compensate, and I don't know how many cases like that are cought and written down as coivd deaths so we are probably past it.
the arstechnica piece indicated that for every covid death or covid infection there's so many extra deaths and each one affects up to 9 family members in a blossom of grief and mental health disorders.
so this is going to keep going on for at least another year right? fuck
Unless a miracle vaccine shows up, yeah. At least our 1st quarter stocks were good, nobody likes panic
Will this ever cause a stock crash? I know we're due for one anyway but the market doesn't seem to really care about hundreds of thousands of deaths
Not the deaths specifically, but all those bankrupted businesses are gonna add up someday
I mean idk. Seems like big business didn't take too much of a bit and just got to consolidate the market
A lot of big businesses make their money off of small businesses, and somebody needs to buy all the stuff. I dont think its sustainable
Yeah that's one of the contradictions of capitalism, it's not sustainable but idk how soon the unsustainability is cause a crash
i got no idea, but we were probably due for a crash before covid, my gut says within the year there's gonna be serious issues
If it's a Trump vaccine, like 20-30% of the country will refuse to take it; if it's a Biden vaccine, probably the same
America looking to be a leper colony real soon
Every once in a while, I check the case fatality # of the day and whenever it's less than 1k I consider it a good day. Then I'm sad.
