in a better world xi would get a nobel peace prize for all of his belts and roads, and this, and peace between iran and saudi arabia, amongst other things

True, but it would also required denobeling all the unworthy scum who got it before, right now it is an absolute insult to put Xi in one line with people like Kissinger, wałęsa, Wilson, Dalai Lama, Gorbachev, Obama or many more.

        Kissinger

jfc it always breaks my brain that this, bloodless ghoul, has the "peace prize"

the whole nobel office building should be drowned in the blood off the people killed by the recipiants

Love that it was a joint prize and Lê Đức Thọ (CPV diplomat and PAVN General who led negotiations) was just like lol no thanks

Unfortunately, the Nobel Peace Prize Committee put the aggressor and the victim of aggression on the same par. ... That was a blunder. The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the greatest prizes in the world. But the United States conducted a war of aggression against Vietnam. It is we, the Vietnamese people, who made peace by defeating the American war of aggression against us, by regaining our independence and freedom

A thin silver lining it at least that Le Duc Tho refused the prize basically saying it was farce, and that move made Kissinger look like a fool in addition to hypocrite and bloodthirsty warmonger he was.

Sure, but the good news is that we live in a world where they are still doing this without a nobel prize. The good thing that deserves a prize is getting done here, in the world we live in now. Can't be too bitter about that.

if only China were advanced enough to invent an alternative to the nobel prize system, so westerners wouldn't be the only ones giving themselves awards sadness

    This is China's best move.

Part of the cope I have read is that Trump is just announcing bullshit so that he can force people to negotiate and thereby get the actual deal, this is all just a theatric preamble.

Instead of allowing that China should just say "yeah? Okay we will eat your lunch while you're trying to get us to sit down at the negotiation table."

Honestly it’s possible that it’s mostly posturing. He also said a bunch of shit last time and didn’t really deliver most of it.

Even if China knows its posturing they should take it at face value if it results in shit negatively impacting the US empire and the Trump regime. Petulant shitters deserve it.

anybody remember that story about state department (maybe DOJ or whoever does the sanctions) employees in a band doing a The Police parody "Every Little Thing We Do Is Sanctions" or similar? it was one of things that was so on the nose it was hard to believe. I can't find it now but I think CTH mentioned it

What does “zero-tariff treatment for 100 percent tariff lines” mean?

I found the story in Chinese, let's see if that sheds some light.

      https://www.yidaiyilu.gov.cn/p/0V7IMLPR.html

      machine translation says

Since December 1, China has granted zero tariff treatment to 100% of tariff items of all the least developed countries that have established diplomatic relations with China, including 33 African countries, becoming the first major developing country and the world's major economy to implement this measure. Many Africans said that China's move conforms to the development needs of the global South countries, demonstrates the responsibility of a major country, shares development opportunities with countries around the world with practical actions, and truly makes the fruits of development benefit more people of all countries.

EDIT: to add to this, here's a Global Times article with a corroborating headline, however the article text makes the same mistake above

China to give least developed countries zero-tariff treatment

A tariff line is a product that is defined by a system of tariff code numbers. Countries use tariff lines to classify products for customs purposes.

so my best guess is it means all product groups currently tariffed at 100% will now be 0%

EDIT: looks like it's 100% of products, not those with 100% tariffs. wow

from what I can tell they are dropping all tariffs with the global south countries they have relations with

it should say "zero-tariff treatment for 100 percent of tariff lines" but someone goofed

As I fly americanly upward into the sky, reaching the apex of my climb, I notice something small traveling next to me. It's a twisted piece of metal, a little fragment of the petard that detonated and sent me up here.

It's got something written on it

China will give all the least developed countries with which it has diplomatic relations zero-tariff treatment for 100 percent tariff lines

    this is incomprehensible

it should say "100 percent of tariff lines", I found the story in Chinese and that seems to be what it says

a tariff line is a product group basically, classification system with code numbers

China's belt and road agency article this CGTN report seems to be directly based on:
