You: rage cries over gay people in your star war

Me: outraged over them not dressing up those ak's to look star wars-y what a shame

How would you know they’re plucky guerrilla revolutionaries if they’re not toting around an AK?

I was seriously hoping they'd be firing actual bullets with those thangs. I know it wouldn't fit the universe and whatnot but I also had an open mind about the show because of things I'd read about it.

Laser ahh bullshit. Drive mass, kid.

Had a couple of family members complaining about how movies and videos games suck these days because "you have to get representation everywhere". Sometimes I think that these people are extremely online and don't really go about saying shit like this in public, but then I realize just how many people in around me say shit like this all the time and it fucking sucksdoomer

It's pretty fun and occasionally productive to needle them about why they feel that way. Pretend to be neutrally curious.

the socratic method is honestly more effective than lecturing if youre on at least decent terms with the other person

It’s people’s capacity for the repetitive that gets me. They want the same characters, that always look the same as each other, that always do the same thing everytime . Sci-fi has to be the same 1940s serial done all over. Again and again but photorealistic.

Given there’s a character that’s basically Disney’s Karl Marx I’m not sure they would enjoy it without the gay, either. Or maybe the not-at-all-subtle themes would slide cleanly off their perfectly smooth, frictionless brain.

I've actually met couple of people who are not so subtle about being fascists and they loved Andor, especially Nemik and Luthen, so yeah, you're right. They don't pick up on the shit that's actually being talked about, but they do enjoy the "by any means necessary" rhetoric A LOT

Jabba has a whole harem of slave women of various different species from him that he oggles: I sleep

LGBT characters existing in a cinematic universe spanning a good chunk of an entire galaxy: real shit

I didn't spend my food hard earned money on this UHD TV to look at a cast of diverse characters living lives of complexity.

I want my fictional escapist fantasy to look like the church in a strip mall where I get my real life escapist fantasy.

I mean, I would not spend my money on the show either because disney is hypercapitolist shite but Andor was by far the most based Star Wars.

for sure. I loved it and didn't pay a dime. can't wait for S2.

I am big Tony Gilroy fan, so him getting to do his own thing with Andor was a bullseye.

Andor isn't nearly diverse enough though. Why are you setting a story in space with so many different species and only having human characters. Booooring

The reason according to the showrunners was that they decided that if they were going to give focus to aliens, they would only do it if they could give the same justice to the racial politics of star wars that they did for the other politics within Andor. Then when they looked at the time they had to tell the story and realized there simply was not enough space in the runtime to do it well. Perhaps if it got the original 5-season run that was in discussion, things may have been different

Most of the OT guns were pretty much just the real guns too though, Mauser c96, sterling submachine guns, mg42s etc. the AK47 design is pretty old now too.
