Socialism under siege is not the same as socialism under comfort. The ideal world we want is not the world we live in and we must be pragmatic and ruthless. We cannot afford to go in for liberal notions of decency and restraint.
Prison is pretty fucking cruel too. That's what you types never consider. Imagine being stuck in a cell, a rotten, dirty tiny space for the rest of your fucking life, small exercise outside it but little else. If it's cruel for zoos to keep animals in tiny cages it might be cruel to do the same to humans. The humane solution is execution.
Also how do you reform a fascist in a situation like this? You can't. It's about material interests and these people have interests and ideology completely counter to socialism. They will not be reformed. They live in a tiny corner of the world, a world filled with capitalist powers and capitalist propaganda courtesy of the US of A. They live in a world where they can and have reasonable hope that the US will swoop in and restore a system to their liking. Alongside that many of these people are religious fascists. Christian fascists. You going to try and reform the religion out of them? Because to get at the toxic reactionary ideology you have to peel back that protective armor first.
Absolute galaxy brain. They don't have the resources to imprison all these people and they're a danger alive at all. A bullet is cheap and quick. Reform isn't realistic. Bolivia is not stable socialism. They are under dire siege and imminent threat. They need to not waste resources on trying to rehabilitate fascists which isn't always possible,, you can't force human minds to change after all or change a wealthy person or once wealthy person's class interests in their head. There are liberals to reform, expend the resources on reforming them, not fucking members of counter-revolutionary fascist paramilitary orgs. Use resources on rehabilitating the common thief or vandal, the common abusive husband, not fucking fascists.
It doesn't matter if they can be reformed or not, main goal is to get them away from society to protect society, but death penalty makes even a slightest chance of reform impossible.
