Oh yeah, still dumb, which is why it got memed. They compare a lot of physical theft to downloading movies but like shoplifting a movie and downloading a movie are obviously different things, nevermind stealing a car

You're right, but the reason they otherwise wouldn't have paid for it is, in a lot of cases, the price. They otherwise wouldn't have paid full price for it, but they possibly would have bought it for some amount less. For example, if I think a game looks interesting but it costs too much, I'll pirate it. If I like it and later it's on sale for a price I think is reasonable, I'll buy it.
Price isn't the only reason, but it is a major one.
Convenience is definitely one of the biggest factors too.

I 3D printed a piece for my arm rest, it had two compartments and one would never latch and dump all of my shit everywhere so i had a guy make me a piece. I asked him if we could just 3d print the rest of the car and he said we arent too far off. Mentioned some one actually made a car using an industrial sized one, but also mentioned it looked like shit.
